Surf camp was my last stop of a round the world trip, and really was one of the highlights of the 5 months.. I booked for a week and stayed for a month in the end, it was perfect!

All the camp staff are so nice and friendly, with amazing bedrooms that look over the sea, perfect to look out for some waves (not that i knew what to look for). With food that is better than my mum cooks and loads of things to do if you've mastered surfing : )

You can do as much or as little surfing you want too, which is wicked if your abit hungover, and the beach is pretty much your own! Ive already looked at flights to go back : )

Zopilote Surfcamp

I recently attended the Zopilote surf camp for the second time. It is an AMAZING place -obviously… that’s why I went back and didn’t want to leave!

Location is perfect. You get to be out of the main surf towns while still able to connect to “the rest of the world” if you want to in Santa Teresa. The house is right on the beach next to a beautiful beach break with jungle all around and monkeys!

The people running this camp are very chill and live the life of surfers because they love it. Their passion for the sport and life-style are contagious forcing visitors to have a magical experience. Mostly young people attend this camp (20 – 40 y/o) from all over the world. I met great friends who I still keep in contact with and share the bond of surfing Costa Rica together.

I definitely recommend this spot as a single traveler or with friends (I have done both). It’s perfect. And oh yeah… they feed you well (which you deserve because you surfed all day!).

Zopilote Surfcamp

I stayed at Zopilote for a week in mid July and had a fantastic time! I was a single traveler and there were 5 other single travelers there from around the world. Everyone was friendly and the owners make great breakfasts and dinners. Plus Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are pretty close. I had a truck rental so it was easy to get around, but you can just as easily rent ATV's or take the camp supplied bikes to town. Or walk on the road or beach the whole way into town. Generally we surfed mid morning and then again mid afternoon. So there was plenty of time to see other things or sit around and relax with a book/nap - which is what I did most of the time! Some nights the group decided to go into town at night for some fun, some nights we were tired from all the surfing and went to bed early. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a relaxed atmosphere where you can walk to perfect surf!

Zopilote Surfcamp

I spent a week earlier this year at zopilote and welcomed 2008 there... it is hands down, one of the best new year celebrations I ever had. The people at Zopilote are awesome (very friendly and very helpful - always available to answer questions about surfing/activities around the area/best drinking spots/etc), the food is delicious and the guests staying there are all pretty laid back and ready to have a good time.

A typical day there is:

*morning to 10ish - surfing

*11ish - big breakfast

*then you get to pick you own activities for the afternoon... you can go into town to do some shopping, use the internet, lounge in the hammocks, play at the beach (the Surfcamp is located right on the beach)...

*around 3ish - people start hitting the waves again.

*7ish - dinner time (Simon is an amazing cook. I am a vegetarian (and on the picky side) but I loved every meal he cooked.

*night time - depending what day it is, sometimes everyone hangs out at the Surfcamp and drink or watch movies, but more often than not, there's a group ready to go into santa theresa or mal pais to PARTY!!! always loads of fun.

The waves there are pretty consistent so if desired, one can go surfing everyday, twice a day. The beach is not packed (which is nice because you don't have to worry about "running" into people) and they also provide surf lessons. And as I mentioned above, Bruno or Simon or their surf instructors are always readily available to answer any questions about waves/swells/surfing techniques).

i highly recommend this Surfcamp to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun vacation... I am definitely planning on heading back for more surfing (and more of Simon's cooking!)
