“Enjoyed Tree Houses Hotel - Loved restaurant next door”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Yes, they are really treehouses. They're pretty high up which is nice and there's a wrap around porch for just sitting among the trees. The inside was nice, there's glass all around the room so you can look out, and there was a tree that went through our room as well. The bathroom was on the smallish side, but the room overall was basic/comfortable. When we arrived there were beautiful flowers on the bed and in the bathroom which was a nice touch (but they eventually attracted ants so we put the flowers outside). It was easy to get our laundry done there (washed and folded for 6 bucks). The hosts were informative and helped us book transportation.

Breakfast was included and it was a large, fresh breakfast. We ate our dinners at the restaurant just a few hundred metres down the road, it's called Lomas del Mapache. We highly recommend it. This restaurant was our favorite part about visiting the area. It's run by a Costa Rican family who spoke English and were delightful to talk to. We were pleasantly surprised when our food arrived (the presentation was excellent and the taste even better). You must enjoy a dinner there if you stay at Treehouses. Plus, on a clear night, you can see Arenal from the restaurant.

Mosquitos were sort of bad in the area (we were there in October). Easy to get to from San Jose by bus (you can ask the bus driver to stop right outside the hotel). However, this hotel is not in the heart of La Fortuna/Arenal area. If you rent a car you can easily drive about 30-40 minutes to get there, but if you don't have a car then you can take the bus which takes about an hour or pay $25 for a taxi. At $110 a night, it was a little pricey (especially for the off season)...it was twice as much as we paid for other equally good accommodations that we chose in Costa Rica.

“High On Treehouses Hotel”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

If you're visiting Costa Rica and want to see and hear wildlife without paying for a guide and entrance to a rainforest, this is the place to stay! If you want to visit the exciting Arenal Volcano but don't want to be surrounded by lots of other tourists, giftshops, and hotels, you are only about 30 min. away. Only three treehouses on the property so it is easy to commune with nature whether it be birds, butterflies, bluejean poison dart frogs, sloths, toucans, or "Julio" , the huge resident howler monkey - just a few of the many wonderful creatures we got to experience during our 3 night stay at the Treehouses Hotel. Tropical flowers greet you upon entrance and will delight you as you wander throughout the grounds. Easy trails with benches on which to linger, amazing nature waterfalls and pools with convenient restrm. facilities down by the river, leafcutter ant trails speckled with moving leaf pieces that go forever, tracks of cats and other lg. creatures, darting quadrupeds crossing the trails, parrots screeching you awake, deep growling that makes you jump out of bed - all this plus great hosts, RayAnn and Kelly, and delicious and filling breakfasts with hummingbirds ! Great suggestions and assistance on tours, dining, and souvenirs. Who needs plush carpets, hotel lobbies, whirlpools - THIS is Costa Rica, Pura Vida!

One note: If you rent a car and using GPS to find the hotel, do not go to the one listed as it is not the right one, instead call the hotel and get their coordinates and enter them in and it will take you directly there!

“Perfect in every way”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

I found this little gem of a place through trip advisor, actually, and am SO glad I did!! It was just perfect. Compact, tidy little tree houses nestled amongst the trees. Raeann and Kelly are delightful and wondeful hosts and I just can't say enough nice things about them, how they run the place and the fantastic services they provide their guests! And of course you can't disregard the amazing breakfasts! Different each morning and filling; eggs, beans, rice, tortillas, fresh coffee, fresh fruit & juice just to name a few!

The walk through the rainforest on their property to the waterfall & river is just wonderful. Yes it's hot, yes it's buggy, but hey, it's Costa Rica!! And it's the tropics. They provide you with mosquito coils to burn on the darling little balconys and the rooms are well screened.

I wish I'd had longer than 2 nights to spend with them!

“Rainforest Sanctuary”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We only got to stay for one night but we made the most of it. We had drove from La Fortuna, which is about 30 minutes away. Becareful driving at night, very poor lighting, quicky, windy roads make it somewhat dangerous. Be very cautious. Rayann and Kelly were the nicest host. Breakfast consisted of juice, and coffee, fresh fruits and a nice Costa Rican type of breakfast. I don't know what it's called, but one of the ladies cooked this really tasty maduro stuffed with melty cheese. It was delicious. The hiking trail was quite long but the payoff was well worth it. You'll discover little animals, a small waterfall and the river. We spotted the resident howler monkey, Julio. Rayann strongly suggested we eat at Happyland, which is a 5 minute drive from the hotel. The soups are delicious, must try it. There's a little market that's well stocked right next to Happyland. You can pick up drinks and snacks or whatever you need. We stayed in cabin #2, there's a faint smell of humidity but it's nothing that should scare you away. It's a comfortable bed. Be sure to bring your own shampoo, as they don't provide it. We didn't see too many scary insects, just some ants in the bathroom. All in all, I think it's a great place for a couple or a small family. It's a bit farther from La Fortuna that I would have liked and the town it is in is quite boring. But I think it's a fair tradeoff for living high up in the trees and waking up to dozens of hummingbirds in the morning. Pura Vida!

“Hidden Gem In the Trees”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We stayed here for 3 nights to begin our vacation in Costa Rica. Traveling with 2 teenage boys the treehouse was the highlight of the vacation. We stayed in Treehouse #3. It had a double bed upon entering, a loft with 2 single beds, a small bathroom and tiny area with fridge and coffee maker and safe. It also had a very large tree growning through the treehouse and surrounded by sliding glass doors so you could view the scenery all around you. We never did put on the air conditioner, just opened the doors and let the rain forest breeze blow in. As for bugs, a few small flies and moths may have flew in, but although I did see some spiders, none came into the tree house. There is no tv or radio just the sounds of nature, We spend a lot of time sitting on the wrap around deck lit by candles (as it is pitch black at night by 6:30pm) and enjoying quiet morning out there as well. Bring flashlights. The shower was quiet enjoyable as well as it also has glass starting around 5 feet up the walls so it was like showering outdoors. Our tree house was home to bats, so during the day you would see them hanging above the front door. We also seen a sloth in the trees from our porch deck. It did rain on and off but the tree house is surrounded by so many trees that you never felt the rain, just heard it. Breakfast was wonderful. Sitting on the patio of our hosts home eating among the humming birds. Fresh fruit and juice every morning followed by a hot breakfast. They do have an outdoor fridge that you can help yourself to beverages on the honor system. Just write down what you took and pay at the end of your stay. Beverages were soft drinks, gatorade as well as beers. Very reasonably priced. When staying at the Tree Houses it is a must to take the walking trail behind the property, do bring water or something to keep you hydrated. Walking in the rain forest is like walking in a sauna. The scenery is totally amazing, with fruit trees in abundance and bamboo trees. At the end there is pools of water with a little waterfall if you want to cool off. Check out the leaf cutting ants as you walk the trail. Bring bug spray. Our hosts were very helpful in booking tours for us. La Fortuna is only 15 minutes away. We booked with Pura Vida tours the Volcano hike, hot springs (Baldi) and dinner. Unfortunately it poured rain but our guides made the best of it, stopping to point out toucans and slothes and a poison eyelash vipor. We learned a lot on the tour and were glad to have brought cheap plastic raincoats for our excursion. The volcano was an amazing sight, though we did not see any red lava at night due to the weather. Baldi hot springs was awesome. They have multiple hot springs and one with water slides that the teenage boys never left. The slides are really fast. Dinner was not the best, but for the price we paid ($50 cdn per person) which was the transportation, tour, hot springs and dinner you really can't complain. We left Liberia airport and the drive was 5 1/2 hours to get to the Tree Houses. I hear that tour buses do the trip in 3 hours and have no idea how. The roads are very curvey and many pot holes. If you are prone to car sickness I stongly suggest taking gravol. Signage is rare and a navigation system in the rental may have been a good added extra but we just made the best of it by asking the local people for directions. From the Tree Houses we went to Tamarindo, another 5 to 6 hours and stayed at an all inclusive resort. It was wonderful, but our favorite place had to have been the Tree House, it was truly back to nature, quiet, unusual and wonderful. If I was to go back to Costa Rica, I would definately stay at the Tree Houses again.

“Highlight of our Trip to Costa Rica”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Spent 5 days at the Tree Houses and can't say enough good things about our experience! The accommodations (Tree House #1) were both comfortable and charming -- after a long day hiking around to the sights it was nice to unwind on the porch reading a book or playing chess. The property has abudant wildlife -- howler monkeys, hummingbirds, sloths, frogs, etc. -- and a delightful waterfall with wading pools. Breakfast was a filling mix of local (beans/rice, plantains) and more traditional (scrambled eggs, french toast) dishes, all fresh and delicious. Our hosts, Raeann and Kelley, helped us navigate the local attractions to get the best value, recommending tours and setting up reservations as needed. Additionally, when our trip hit a few minor snags (damage to rental car, difficulty getting cash via ATM) they were quick to help us find solutions -- you certainly wouldn't get that kind of service from a chain hotel! For anyone going to the Arenal/La Fortuna area, I highly recommend a stay at the Tree Houses Hotel.

“A Unique Experience !!!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We stayed at the Tree House Hotel for 4 nights during the last week of July and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing that I didn’t like too much was that our house (#1) moved with every step that we took. The other tree houses did not do this. The owners assured us that everything was okay and it was made to move with the elements. Ours was the oldest and the highest of the 3 houses. We toured the other two houses and they did not move as much as ours. It felt like we were on a cruise ship. This would not have bothered me very much except for the fact that my 12 year old son thought it was great fun to “shake the house”. Although we liked our Tree House (#1), I think #3 is the nicest. It has a tree growing right through the bedroom and the deck raps all the way around the house. There are full length windows around 3 sides of the bed.

The best part of the hotel was our hosts. They setup all our tours (zip line, white water rafting, Arenal-all day tour), recommended some great restaurants (every dish recommended was wonderful) and were available all hours of the day and evening to chat or answer questions. We also enjoyed the wildlife on the property. We saw some sloths, toucans, humming birds, beautiful flowering plants, etc. The breakfasts were delicious and got each day off to a great start. We loved taking showers as the windows in the shower were screens and you felt as though you were showering outdoors.

Bring your own shampoo as none is provided. I also brought some flashlights and was glad I had. They do provide bar soap, towels (changed when requested), small refrigerator, coffee maker and coffee (which I enjoyed each morning on our balcony). We had rented a car and brought our GPS (an essential item). We drove from the airport to the Tree House and then to the Central Pacific region and I don’t know if we would have gotten there so easily without it. The room itself is very small, just enough room to walk around the bed. There are no dressers or shelves or closets to put your clothes away. But this did not bother us as we kept our stuff in our suitcases under the bed.

We would definitely recommend this hotel for a unique one of a kind experience. If you have any questions about the hotel or the tours we took, please contact me.

“Nice if you are prepared”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We viewed this as our "Swiss Family Robinson" week of our two weeks in Costa Rica. The tree house was cute and cozy, but a little smaller than we anticipated. There are nice breezes if you leave all of the doors open, but within a few minutes the bugs overwhelm you. The result is that you have to have the air conditioning on more than you would prefer. Our biggest problem is that we stayed at this location for five nights and never once got housekeeping. We generally don't mind reusing towels and such, but when you have a 6 and 8 year old boys, someone to freshen up the bathroom is a must. We also lost water once, but it was restored fairly quickly. Our kids loved the tree house and their loft bedroom. The property also has a great hiking path back to a cool waterfall. The breakfasts were more "Americanized" than we would have preferred, but the owners were very kind and free with suggestions for dinner and the like. They are new to the hotel business and it showed. All-in-all still a very good place to stay.

“Great Experience! ”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

The Tree House Hotel is a fantastic way to really experience Costa Rica! Treehouses are clean and cozy. The hosts are excellent and have great recommendations on everything from dining to souvenier shopping to adventures. Be sure to take morning walks to the river, you're sure to see lots of wildlife! Breakfast is wonderful!

“Tree Houses was the cherry on top!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We stayed at Tree Houses for our last night in the Arenal area. It was a fantastic way to go out since it is out of the city a bit. Our cabin was right across from the reception area and pulling in my first reaction was "There's a huge cabin up in the trees!" I knew what to expect but it was even cooler in person. The cabin was large and clean. It even had a tree going right through the inside. The shower is surrounded with glass so it feels like your out in the jungle. There was also a small refridgerator. We enjoyed the large deck that surrounds the cabin and with plenty of seating to sit back and enjoy the view. Remember the bug spray! There were even a few bats that welcomed us in on our eve. The cabins are located on a reserve, so if you have time, take the walk and enjoy the wildlife. The staff were more than helpful with directions and referrals. Our kids enjoyed their rescue dog, Sweetie, who visited during the fabulous breakfast that is included. The only negative thing I could come up with is that it is close to a street, so the morning cars could be heard. All the other ambiance stuff more than covered that up though.

“Tree Houses were awesome”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We traveled to CR in June, perfect time in between their summer and the rainy season. We were going to the volcano arenal and saw the ad for tree houses. My wife is quite the adventurer and wanted to check it out. I thought it would be fun so we booked it. Super reasonable.

We have 3 kids, 14, 12 & 8, they loved it!! For kids that live on the beach, they took right to it. You are IN THE JUNGLE! Take the hike to the waterfall, it's beautiful with plenty of critters to look at and fresh fruit to eat.

Above all else, the service was unreal. Rayann, the owner, is great, she's there and accessible with plenty of suggestions for you if you're looking for things to do. You're about 1/2 hr from the town of La Fortuna which is the launch spot to get to the volcano, worth the drive.

We loved it and would definitely go back! It's a very different travel experience so if you're looking for a little change, check it out.

“Nice stay, great staff.”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We enjoyed a three night stay (just the right amount of time for us) and found the treehouses to be simple, clean, and utterly charming. Especially enjoyable were the many windows, comfortable bed, outdoor feel of the shower (but not for those looking for lots of hot water) and sleeping loft for our two children (ages 7 & 10). Most memorable were the sounds at dusk and dawn and the 6 bats outside the front door that shared our lodging. (The bats were night hunters that kept the bug population and hung around quietly during the day).

The staff were great at talking with us about what we wanted to do and then helping us find things that we would like. During our stay they directed us to great small local restaurants, interesting hot springs and relaxing river floats. We loved it and would happily go back. An added bonus was Sweety, the dog, that greeted us and followed us around.

“Wonderful, Fantastic, Great!! ”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My husband recently came back from a one week vacation in Costa Rica. For the 1st three nights we stayed at the Costa Rica Tree Houses Hotel and loved it. We flew into Liberia airport and rented a car. The drive was about 3 1/2 hours so we did not get in till late. There was a night guard that gave us all the information that we needed. The property is also secure with a gate that we were given an opener for. We were in tree house number one. The room was small but that didn't even matter to us. After all, how much are you really in your room. We did enjoy reading on the porch. The entire experience was so wonderful. We were a little bit outside of the main area of La Fortuna but we had a car so that was fine with us too. The best part was noise and the people. My husband found the noise of the forest to be relaxing and he fell asleep right away. I loved waking up to the birds and all the sounds of the forest. The owners are great! The main area where you check in and eat breakfast is under construction (please do not let this discourage you!) so they had us go next door to a little restuarant for breakfast and they sat and ate with us. They will help you get directions from one place to another, give you restuarant ideas and help you with anything you may need help with. English is their native language so don't worry about a language barrier because there isn't one at all. They also booked a wonderful all day excursion for us prior to us arriving. I do believe that one night at the Tree Houses is too short. You need a couple of days for La Fortuna and you also need a day in San Carlos but remember not to forget to walk the grounds. They are very peaceful. In addition, I have read in other reviews that this was the most expensive hotel that people stayed at. It was the cheapest that we stayed at but one of the best!

“Very Unique!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

This was one of the most expensive hotel during our stay in Costa Rica but also the most unique.

The staff were very responsive and very friendly/helpful when we arrived. The reception was having work done but they still managed to chat to us and organised breakfast at a nearby restaurant which they joined us for.

As other reviews mentioned, the location is a long drive outside of La Fortuna with limited activities around the area. We stayed for one night and felt that was all we needed.

There are only a few tree houses which makes it feel more eco and unique. It would be more touristy if there was a whole forest full of them!

The tree house was fun, extremely clean and the shower was great (your literally showering out doors with no windows but firm mozzie mesh instead!)

Trail was good and also as mentioned you are literally in the middle of the everything so it's quite noisy but a great way of waking up in the morning.

“When can we go back?!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Out of all the places we stayed while in C.R. this was our favorite. The staff were excellent, the tree house was immaculate, comfy and just plain gorgeous! The breakfast was delicious every morning and the "bird show" set the tone for the day. You even get a little pet relief with Queeny (lil' cutie) and Sweety (tico dog). If you can-go here. Stay here. We extended our stay after being there only a few hours because we fell so in love with the place. Rent a car though-it makes things a lot easier. We walked to the grocery store and took the bus into La Fortuna, so it is do-able just not totally recommended.

“Love, love, LOVED it!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We LOVED our stay at the tree house. We were in tree house #3. The staff was wonderful. They helped us plan our trips and rented a car for us. We did our tours through Pura Vida Tours. We did the Cano Negro Refuge Tour, Rio Celeste Waterfall and River Hike, and the Arenal One Day Tour. Honestly, we loved them all.

The tree houses are very clean. We had hot water, a coffee maker with coffee and a fridge to store food. The free breakfast served from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m at the main house was excellent. It was our best breakfast while in Costa Rica.

We did the trail on the property and while we checked out the waterfall, we had some Howler monkeys call to us. It was so cool yelling back and forth with them.

I would recommend renting a car. It is off a little drive from the towns (which we liked.)

It was just such a fun and neat experience. I would definitely recommend it. I can't say enough good things about the tree houses or the surrounding areas. If you have any questions, please let me know.

“Wow...A Great Time!!!!!!!!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

This was our first trip to Costa Rica...and to top it off I was celebrating my 40th birthday! I had done much research on different places to stay and then I ran across the Tree houses and got very excited when we were able to book 4 nights there. Correspondese with the owners was not only enthusiastic but very helpful on things to do and places to see. After taking the ol' red eye we arrived about 10:00 am only to get our bus stuck under the sign and entrance to the Tree houses....we laughed and said this is our "first" adventure in Costa Rica. Kellie one of the owners came to the entrance to pick us up and welcomed us with a warm hola.

This place was awesome!!! We went on hikes everyday around the property, the rooms were clean with no bugs!...we were expecting mosquitos but found very few..probably due to the dry warm weather, Kellie was a terrific host and greeted us every morning for breakfast and sat with us and other guests as we talked about the previous days excursions and planned our next ones. Kellie, asked what excursions we wanted to go on and she booked them all for us.....awesome!!! The breakfasts were fantastic and different every day, the grounds beautiful and lots of wildlife.

Although, I packed my loincloth I decided to keep it in the luggage and pull that out at a later date. If you do go on walks through the jungle make sure to say hello to the resident horse out in the fields...just call it over and it WILL come to you for a good scratch under the chin.

Seriously folks, if you want a fun place to stay that is definately different than the norm...this is the place...all our friends were jelouse of the tree house and we had a great time....

Kellie....THANK YOU!!!!!! you were awesome...we enjoyed our conversations with you and had some good laughs....tell sweetie hellp and Rene...missed ya but are thinking of you!

“Peaceful, Private and Perfect! ”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Our trip began on Feb 13th with 20 friends and family members who joined us for our wedding in Montezuma. 1/2 of the group continued on to Arenal until the 18th. Our honeymoon officially started on the 18th and I wanted a place that would be quite, remote, cool, romantic and beautiful for the beginning of our trip as husband and wife (solo!) We wanted a place to wind down and relax before heading on to Peace Lodge for the remainder of our trip.

The Tree Houses were just what we were looking for and to top it off it was in between our previous destination and our final destination. Perfect!

The structures themselves were pretty cool. We had Tree House #1 which had a porch but it did not wrap around like #3's porch. The tree house is small, but everything somehow fit! The house was about 25 feet off the ground and it also had a second story loft. The house swayed as you walked around it, and more so if you went into the loft. The tree house is not really IN the trees but on long metal posts up WITH the trees (and affixed to one with bolts) The height offers a fabulous view of the tress that are visited by many colorful and exotic tropical birds. I saw my first toucan here :)

The main level offers and enclosed bedroom area that strategically holds one queen size bed (sort of... it seemed a little short), 2 night tables and shelves with a refrigerator and coffee maker. Three glass panels allow viewing of the outside and the small room is cooled with an efficient air conditioner. The door to the toilet and sink is located on one side of the bed and the door to the shower is located on the other. Both rooms are screened in. The water for the shower is somehow heated in the shower head. We will use the term "heated" loosely here. The water is pleasantly warm but never reached a level of hot. If you absolutely must have hot water, or your trip will be ruined... these tree houses are not for you. If you can settle for comfortable - then you will enjoy the tree houses. We fall in the last category. :)

The trees are alive with singing birds and locust that are only drowned out by the passing cars (you can hear the cars on the main road from the tree house) We spent a lot of time on the porch enjoying the nature; playing tic tac toe and hang man! Bring a deck of cards or a travel game!

A ladder is at the foot of the bed that takes you to the second floor loft. Movement in the loft causes noticeable swaying of the structure (Kids will LOVE this!). Although kids would love the loft, I don't think it is appropriate for very young children. The entrance and exit is a hole in the ceiling that very young children would have trouble with and could possible fall down through. Children over the age of 8 would be fine in the loft; any younger, you would need to use your discretion. We would have been uncomfortable with our (just turned) 6 year old up there (although he would have loved it!).

If you are looking for a busting town with lots of night life, Santa Clara is not for you. If you want peace and quite, or if you have a car, you will enjoy this place immensely. The town is pretty quite and boasts a few restaurants, some sodas, a grocery store and a few shops. Not a tourist area at all - we thought this was AWESOME!

We took a cab to Happy Land twice during our 4 night stay. One cab charged us $5 dollars and the other charged us $6 dollars. Happy Land is right next to the grocery store which is also very convenient. Happy Land had great food and the people were so friendly! The restaurant is a local spot, and the Ticos were down to earth and loved to chat and try out their English (and help with our Spanish!).Daniel and Marlon "Brando" were hospitable and very welcoming. It seemed that when we showed up the music was put on an American radio station. The 1/4 Kilo Lomo was excellent and the Pechuga Rellena was quickly my husband's new favorite Tico dish! When the server found out I wanted yucca fries he went next door and bought some and had the cook make them for me! What more could you ask for!

The second restaurant we visited twice during our 4 night stay was a local Tico restaurant with a spectacular view called Mapache. ! It was located an easy 5 minute walk from the tree houses. You could see Arenal from the open air restaurant and lots of wildlife. The server brought over binoculars when he saw me straining to see a pair of toucans in the distant tree. The food was excellent and HUGE portions! The view out over the land below was breathtaking. At dusk we noticed bats flying in the high ceiling.... they didn't bother us, in fact, it was pretty cool! Only in Costa Rica!

The hike to the waterfall was pleasant. The waterfalls are 3 separate small pools made out of rock with stairs in each pool. We were disappointed that the pools were filled with debris and the water was not clear because the overflow was blocked with leaves and branches. We ended up not getting in the pools as we were unsure as to what lurked below the rocks and leaves.... yes we were chicken! We did not see any monkeys but we did enjoy playing briefly with the horse! The walk back was uphill (why we didn't notice that on the way down I will never know!) so we were a bit winded, sweaty and tired.

There are no touristy things to do in Santa Clara (other then the waterfall walk from what we could tell). Since we did not have a car we chose the river rafting trip (class 2 and 3 rapids) because the tour van picks guests up at the tree houses. Alex, the guide, was fabulous. We had a wonderful time on the river and saw sloths! Finally! The river trip was a half day excursion and we were both happy we chose the trip! The water was beautiful, the rapids were cool, and Alex was very informative. I highly recommend this trip, especially if you are without a rental car!

Renee and Kelly were wonderful hosts! We enjoyed talking to them and envied their new laid back life! You couldn't meet sweeter people! I am sure we bored them with conversation, but if we did, it did not show on their faces. Fabulously beautiful women! Well done ladies! :)

If you are looking for a cool place to stay without a resorty feel, this is place for you. Peaceful and Beautiful. They may not be luxury accommodations, but they sure are unique, private and comfortable. It was EXACTLY what we wanted!

“Disappointing”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

I have to agree with the negative reviews of this place. It's too expensive for what they offer, and compared to other options in the area.

This is not a unique rainforest hideaway, but three small, rather uncomfortable cabins well within hearing distance from the main road. There was a strong smell of humidity inside both houses (#2 & 3).

Also, if you plan to stay at the Tree Houses be aware that it's more than 30 min away from La Fortuna by car, so if you plan to visit attractions there, you'd probably be better off staying in La Fortuna. If you don't have a car, it's not a good idea to stay here, as there's nothing to do nearby.

Bottom line is that the Tree Houses charge twice as much as similar or even better places because the houses are built half way up a tree. Not much happens up in the trees, though; no birds, but a lot of bugs.

“Loved the Tree House!!!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My boyfriend and I stayed at The treehouse - it was 20 minutes out of town. We were very impressed with the all the help Renne and Kelly gave us before we even arrived. The treehouse was so fun - in the middle of the forest - very quiet and a large room. And a large patio outside!

You feel like you are the only ones there.

Tasty Costa Rican breakfast (free) in the morning surrounded by tropical birds and butterflies.

Great value and relaxing special hotel for the money and close enough to do all the activities.

“I can't think of a better way to spend a first night in Costa Rica”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

The Tree Houses Hotel is awesome!

We spent our first night in Costa Rica here and loved it. There are 3 individual tree houses. We stayed in #3, but #s 1 and 2 looked a little bigger, are set back further from the road and don't have the super steep driveway that 3 does. The room was small, but a wrap around deck was a great spot to hang out, drink Imperials and listen to jungle noises.

The best part of staying there was waking up in the jungle. Breakfast was delicious and they put out plantains next to the tables to attract all sorts of birds. After breakfast, we took a very nice walk on the trails behind the tree houses (about 1.5 hours total) where there is plenty of wildlife, a river and a small waterfall.

Once you're here, you'll probably want to stay more than one night. We only left to be closer to La Fortuna/Arenal activities (tree houses are about a 25 minute drive away). But will definitely plan on staying there on my next visit to CR.

“We are coming Back”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We Just got back from a week at the tree house hotel. Great place to stay. You feel like you are alone in the rain forest. The people were great. The tree houses were beautiful. Exactly what you would picture as a tree house. The only problem we experienced was the size of the bed. I'm 6' 4 so the bed was a little tight. But I will tell you that it did not effect our stay. The people were friendly and set up whatever we needed. I can not wait to go back and stay again. It is a little piece of paradise that everyone should experience. Some suggestions.

1. Eat at Happyland great food for cheap with great service.

2. Use the Ecoglide zip lines. Extra safe and great views. Watch out for the Tarzan swing.

3. Go white water rafting.

4. The Hot Springs are nice but way overpriced for what you get. If your not wearing a speedo your out of place.

5. You dont need to pay a tour guide if you have a car you can get to everyplace they drive you to.

6. Try not to drive at night.(Scary drive from La Fortuna)

7. Ask the tree house for advice all there thought turned out to be great.

“A piece of Paradise”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Tree House Hotel, Santa Clara, Costa Rica

When we decided to visit Costa Rica I told my husband I wanted to stay in a tree house, so we went on line to trip advisor and looked up tree houses, saw a few and fell in love with the Tree House Hotel. It met all of our expectations and more. We spent our first two nights there and wish we had more time. Renee, Raeann, Kelly, Samantha and Emily are the most wonderful people we have ever met. They welcomed us like family. Turn off the airconditioning and you will hear the birds and howler monkey's early in the morning. We weren't there more than ten minutes and Emily pointed out a sloth. Wake up with the sun and hike down to the waterfall and see all the sights, birds, mountains, flowers, hummingbirds. Every morning a wonderful breakfast is served while you watch the feeding of the birds, so many speices. The Tree House itself is adorable, somewhat rustic and very clean and saw no bugs. We loved it. Your high in the trees and can fall asleep to the sounds of the outdoors. We told them we wanted to zip line and Samantha recommended Ecoglide. We are so glad she did, what a wonderful, safe experience that was. Renee also recommended some wonderful local restaurants, including Happy Land and the Lava Lounge. Everyone helped make our stay in Costa Rica such a wonderful experience and we can't wait to go back and would definately stay in the Tree House again for a longer amount of time.

“Fantastic place to stay”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My wife and I stayed at the Tree Houses for four nights and had a fantastic time. Renee and Raeann are the perfect guides and are extremely helpful with tips on what to do around the area. The trail to the waterfall and river is a great little hike with outstanding scenery. You can't get any better than sleeping high off the ground surrounded by the call of the birds and monkeys. Getting a chance to see the various birds come down to feed during breakfast is a treat. We hope to stay there again and highly recommend the Tree Houses

“Cool Honeymoon Spot”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My wife and I (both in our mid 30's) stayed here on our first 3 nights in Costa Rica. We didn't know what to expect to be honest and heard about it from a mutual friend who recently went to Costa Rica. Needless to say we were blown away when we saw this place. The rooms are at tree level and it definitely captured the tropical forest element we were looking for. The foot of the bed is surrounded by windows and if you leave the curtains open (don't worry about peeping toms, you're too high and isolated) you'll find yourself surrounded by trees. There's a sweet rap around balcony with small tables and chairs if you want to drink some Imperials and enjoy nature. They also have a coffee maker and a mini fridge in the rooms too. The cool thing about Costa Rica is that the sun comes out early and you wake up at 530am to an awesome sight without having to get up out of bed. The only draw back was that the rooms don't have a TV but I suppose if you're staying in a place like that you have to be w/out the TV to fully capture the mood of being in the jungle. There's a nice trail about an hr long that takes you to a waterfall (nothing giant but beautiful nonetheless) and you can swim at the base of the waterfall. We stayed there 3 nights which was perfect and wouldn't recommend that you stay there anytime less than that. The girls that run the place are all very sweet. We had problems with our shower head and front door the 1st day and they fixed it by the time we got back from an activity. They offer home cooking for breakfast which will range from rice and beans to french toast and eggs. Oh yeah, there's always fresh fruit which tastes pretty good. The ladies made arrangements for activities for us (zipline, horseback riding, hiking) and the places they hooked us up with were great. They were very reasonably priced, pretty cheap really, and the people were very nice. There's also a great place to eat local food close by, I forget what they're called but the ladies recommended it. We liked it so much we ate there like 3 times (2x's in one day too). We spent the remainder of our honeymoon (7nites) at Guanacaste at this beach resort so mixing in staying in the rainforest was awesome. This place is reasonably close to La Fortuna (approx 20-25mins) and I would go back in a heartbeat. One thing that tripped me out though was there were no bugs in the room, it was really clean despite being in the tree's and rainforest. It was a romantic way to start off our honeymoon and a place we'll remember forever. I have no complaints at all, it was an awesome place. PURA VIDA!

“Can't say enough great things about our experience here!!!! ”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

We take our kids on a pretty exciting family trip every year and this experience ranked right up there with our most favorite! Truly a unique vacation experience! The Arenal area was my favorite part of Costa Rica. When we booked with Raeann, we had only planned on staying one night so we could swing past the volcano. She wisely suggested that we should stay AT LEAST two nights. We took her advice and stayed an extra night... We should have stayed longer!! Raeann gave us the names of some reputable tour companies that were wonderful. The Canopy Tour was a definite hi-light and we'll absolutely be doing that again (even our 5 year old went and keeps begging to do it again). The hot springs were amazing! I could go on and on about the Arenal area, but I should also tell you that the Tree houses were everything we hoped for and more!!! Clean, quaint and just rustic enough to make it part of our "Eco-Experience" without feeling like we were roughing it too much. There are only three treehouses, and they're spread out enough that you're really nestled in the jungle. It is really quite cozy. There was a lovely porch on our treehouse that we'd intended to sit at while playing cards, but we ran out of time. BTW, the rooms had refrigerators so we were able to put a stash of adult beverages in there. Raeann has an "honor system" beverage kiosk available too. And they served a wonderful breakfast in the morning that included loads of incredibly fresh fruit. There's a walking path just behind the resort area that takes you to a waterfall... again we ran out of time and weren't able to walk all the way to the waterfall before it got dark, but all along the way were nice little benches for resting if you so chose. (You'll want to bring bug spray... or bug wipes which I packed and found to be very convenient for this trip.)

Right at our hotel we saw: hummingbirds, sloths, monkeys, etc.

If you're looking for a great place for a couple's retreat, or traveling with your family, this would be an excellent choice. (BTW our teenage kids stayed in a neighboring treehouse and we brought walkie talkies so we could keep in touch with them. - This worked very well since the treehouses are just a bit of a jaunt from each other.)

“Beautiful”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Love the Tree Houses!!! My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tree Houses late July. I regret that it was only for two days. It is so close to all kinds of attractions in the Arenal area. Lots to do. The hotel booked the Pura Vida combo tour for us. I highly recommend it. It is a full day of excursions. If we had been able to stay longer, we definately would have gone back to some of the places we visited...waterfalls, hot springs, etc. Couldn't ask for better hospitality. Our luggage didn't arrive with us to Costa Rica so we had nothing to wear for the hiking/swimming, etc. Kelly was just awesome. She loaned her own clothes and shoes to help us out and then stuck around waiting for the airline to deliver our luggage. We got back from a long day of fun to our luggage neatly placed in our tree house (still can't believe Kelly, such a little thing, lugged our HEAVY luggage up there by herself). The tree houses themselves were very clean and cozy, with hot water and A/C. Oh and I was amazed by all the humingbirds around the breakfast area. The property is well manicured, relaxing, and just beautiful! I can't wait to go back!!

“AWESOME!!!!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Me and my sister took a vacation to Costa Rica recently. The tree House Hotel was a very cool experience. The staff is excellent. The Nature preserve is so beautiful. We couldn't think of a better place to be more comfortable and experience Costa Rica.

“Unique, authentic Costa Rican experience”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My son and I spent two nights at the Costa Rica Tree Houses Hotel, which turned out to be as authentic and unique a lodging experience as I have had in several trips here. The tree houses are very clean, roomy enough, very comfortable, and have plenty of hot water for showers. Ours had a wraparound balcony which was great for viewing the rain forest or just relaxing. The houses are acutally built on strong steel platforms, rather than perched on branches. The hotel is easy to find, just a couple hours from SJO airport (take the San Ramon road to get there more quickly) and just 25 minutes to La Fortuna and the Arenal Park (take the road directly north, it is much quicker). The new owners are very nice and very accommodating and willing to help with scheduling great side trips like rafting or zipline tours. We had a blast and would highly recommend this small hotel for value, location, and a memorable stay.

“The vacation of a lifetime!!!!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

This is the most amazing way to see Costa Rica!!! The treehouses are beautifully constructed and very comfortable to stay in. The owners are wonderful and help you with any and all of your vacation plans. They had great ideas for day trips (which they scheduled for us) as well as restaurant suggestions that were not only tasty but had great

local atmosphere and interesting characters. Costa Rica is a must destination for a vacation of the soul and the best way to experience

the La Fortuna area is in the treehouses! I have traveled the world and I have to say, the treehouse experience is up there in my top 3!!

“Loved the Tree Houses!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

The Tree Houses Hotel in Costa Rica, is the most fun hotel I have ever stayed at! There is so much to do in the area like horseback riding and white water rafting. The people who run the resort are the best! The property is beautiful... there is a waterfall and river on the property. You will see so much wildlife like Toucans, Snakes, and Slothes. I will guarantee you will love it! I recommend this hotel to everyone, 100%.

“Great Place to Stay!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

If you like the outdoors you'll really love this place...The owner's are very nice and accommodating, too. They are very helpful and they have a great place to stay. The treehouses are very modern with all the comforts of a hotel. You will also enjoy breakfast with the hummingbirds.

Costa Rica is truly a beautiful place to visit. You must be pretty adventurous to drive around the country because there aren't major highways but smaller roads of which are winding through mountains. There are several places of interest to stop at along the way.

Again, the treehouses are very clean and nice and we would recommend these to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The trees and plants on the grounds there are very pretty, too. You won't be sorry if you choose this place to stay during your visit to Costa Rica's Lake/Volcano Arenal area....Tim & Gail Mason

“Rustic Adventure...So Cool!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Our first trip to Costa Rica and we'll definetly be back!

Firstly, the tree houses are so amazing! We were really impressed by the design and ambiance of the cabin in the trees. It had a really adventurous and rustic feel. If you love nature you'll love this place!

Great value for the money! We would come back to stay again and again. We were sad to leave.

Secondly, Reanne & Kelly (owners) are terrific...they made us feel welcome, comfortable and totally relaxed the whole time.

The first excellent recommendation they provided was the all day adventure tour (pura vida combination tour in Arenal) where we visited the Arenal hanging bridges, the Fortuna waterfall, the rainforest and the volcano (which we got to see errupt just as we arrived at the observation look-out) and finally Tabacon hot springs (absolutely amazing). This tour is highly recommended!!! We were really happy we had taken their advice.

Upon our check-out, we were headed for the coast (with no particular destination in mind) and they recommended a secluded, non-touristy hotel called "Delfin Beach Front Hotel". We followed their advice and spent the last three days of our trip there and loved it!!!!

Our entire trip to Costa Rica was a blast thanks to the recommendations made by Reanne & Kelly!

Thanks to you both, we hope to see you again soon!

“A Great Week In The Trees”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Costa Rica -- and 6 nights at the Tree Houses Hotel. This was a perfect place to stay and the experience exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, and the new owners incredibly accommodating and friendly both before and during our stay. The access to the large property was a huge bonus, where we could take quiet walks, soak in the cascading pools and closely examine all the unique creatures - especially the blue jeans frogs, parrotts, and the sloth. The location was perfect to take advantage of nearby tours, restaurants, etc., without being in the middle of tourist-ville. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

“Loved It!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My daughters and I just got back from our first trip to Costa Rica.

We stayed at the Treehouses hotel near La Fortuna and loved it!

Our room was clean, comfortable, and very affordable. The new owners Raeann and Kelly were a great help to us in choosing and contacting the tours we wanted to go on. The tours picked us up and delivered us back to the hotel. We saw so much wildlife during our stay at the treehouse, including Tucans and the resident Sloth. There was so much to do and see in the area that we couldn't get all done in one trip. We are going back next year and already booked our room again at the Treehouse.

“Once in a lifetime experience !”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Here is your opportunity to actually stay in a Tree House. This accommodation is very adequate and a pleasurable experience. High value for the money. Some of the tree houses are larger than others but it doesn't matter the experience is the same. From this property you can walk down to the river where there is a very cute little waterfall - picnic table and restrooms. Really very special. Breakfast every morning is not anything special but it is adequate and their coffee is the best. A 3 night stay here is great ! Highly recommend the experience and the owners are extremely pleasant and friendly.

“Rustic!”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Our experience with Treehouses was a mixture. We could not book the night we first requested (no vacancy) but were helped to find a different night within our vacation time. We found the house cute, a neat concept, and fun for a night. However, the room was very small (could hardly move around it) and the steps were a challenge, not to mention the challenge the ladder to the loft might have been! We were there at the early part of the rainy season; no mold or mildew problems, no leaks (yes, it did rain while we were there!), good air conditioning, but for the tiny bedroom only. The shower is on one side and the bathroom on the other, both of them were screened from shoulder up, so could not be air conditioned. The pool that appeared so lovely on the advertisement was in very sad shape, stagnant and nearly dry -- that's what we get for going in the start of the rainy season, of course -- but we enjoyed the walk to it and enjoyed sitting by the river at the end of the hike. There is no food available for supper, so we explored and found an excellent Italian restaurant nearby, "Milano". We would have been less than satisfied with the whole experience if we had not had an excellent breakfast the next morning and received some very helpful advice about the road conditions where we were to be driving that day. The owners were very helpful and pleasant. We would not stay there again, but enjoyed the experience for one night.

“would not recommend to anyone.”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

The offer read, 'opportunity to enjoy sleeping in the midst of the Costa Rican rain forest'. Hear the sound of the wildlife. It would have been nice to have had a seat swing to sit and listen to the sounds of the bugs. It was not possible to hear any jungle life at all as the treehouse was built so close to the road the only sound was of the 18 wheelers driving by at at 5:30 each morning .

The balcony built around the treehouse was so narrow, it was not possible to sit at the small picnic table comfortably. We could have tollerated the smallness of the treehouse if it was in fact in the midst of the rain forest. We would not recommend this place, nor would we return to it again. The description on the web site was very misleading, although there was a degree of accuratacy, enough to tempt us to go at least once.

“Tree Top Treasure”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

My Husband and I had a fantastic experience at the Tree Houses Hotel. It is a back to nature small paradise. Great way to start your journey thru Costa Rica. Our treehouse had a comfortable bed, air conditioning that really worked, hot water showers and breakfast included. The tree houses hava a small fridge. Great to stock your beverage of choice in. Nature trails, streams, wild animals(nothing scarey) and exotic flowers. Neat concept to be in a "hut" in the trees. If you are looking for lush

accomadations, then this is not for you. If you want small, non-touristy, and quaint then it's perfect.

“tree houses experience”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

I had a great time in the treehouses. Perhaps because my 4 year old loved it so much. The concept is very neat. The idea of staying up on a tree is not without its difficulties but I found the accomodations more than adequate for our one night stay.

The AC worked fine, the beds were comfortable and there were no bugs in our treehouse.

I was not there while it rained. It did drizzle but no water came into our treehouse in any way.

The breakfast was delicious, we explored the rest of the property and left before noon the next day.

Would I stay there again? I think I am since my son is intent on his father going to stay there.

“Treehouses Hotel Inspection”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

I am a Travel Consultant and a Costa Rica specialist. I inspected this hotel on Nov15/05 and found it to be a neat concept but with some problems to be corrected.

the owner apologized for the repair work that was going on : seal around the tree going up through the dwelling, repairs to roof. The stairs to the loft were very very steep and not appropriate for family with children. The mattresses in loft were on a sort of frame and raised (a little) off the floor. (Prehaps as a recommendation fron the people from Barrie, Ontario, Canada. I am not sure if I would send my clients to this hotel at this time

“Mold & Mildew (Health Concern)”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

I have waited a few days to post this in the hopes that the person who booked us would come back to me with some positive news, but no.

I booked our whole trip to Costa Rica, via the internet. The Treehouses Hotel (just south of Fortuna) was the ONLY place that wanted to put the WHOLE payment through on my VISA, all other places/accomodations, car rental, tours, etc. only needed my Visa for DEPOSIT.

Originally we had booked the Treehouses for 3 nights (as we were going to do some tours from there).

Upon our arrival at the Treehouses (in the sunshine), we thought the Treehouse was a unique looking place, after walking up the stairs, we opened the door and we were all hit with a terrible smell of mold and mildew. We immediately opened all the windows and turned on the A/C and left the room immediately ! There were only 3 treehouses on the site and we were told we had the best ! and we all commented we would have hated to see the other two (which looked newer). We left

and headed to town and upon our return (about 3 hours later), it was pouring rain by that time and as we entered the room, the smell was still very bad and we started fretting about how we were going to sleep in that (never mind for THREE nights), and with the rain came leaks and drips because the treehouse is build around a tree and there is no sealant between the boards and the tree.

We hung outside on the porch as long as we could and then headed inside to sleep. Our third party had to climb up a ladder to get to the "loft" which was no more than two mattresses on the floor, she was terrified to sleep directly on the floor (yes, there were tons of critters there and inside the room because there was about an inch gap at the bottom and top of the door).

We slept but awoke around 5am and all of us had major headaches and within 1/2 hour of waking two of the three of us had raging allergy symptoms ... we knew we had to leave for health reasons.

When we told the owner, he was concerned that we were leaving after just one night but told us to contact his brother (in the STates who booked it) for a refund.

When we reached our next destination that day, I used the internet to write an email to ask for a refund for the two nights we didn't stay for health reasons and we were denied a refund, I begged him to reconsider his decision before writing this review but have not heard back.

I would like to make all future travellers aware and if anyone wants any further information (or pictures), please don't hesitate to contact me.

“Dormir dans une cabane perchée.”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica
