Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We stayed at Tango Mar for 10 nights. The weather was just right and the peak season was coming to an end. The resort is off the beaten path and very private. It feels like you have the beach all to yourself. The customer service was fantastic and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing. We had a beach front room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was decent however don't expect clean sheets every day unless you request it. Its an Eco-friendly resort and they encourage guests to conserve water.

“Great vacation spot”

We stayed at Tango Mar for 10 nights. The weather was just right and the peak season was coming to an end. The resort is off the beaten path and very private. It feels like you have the beach all to yourself. The customer service was fantastic and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing. We had a beach front room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was decent however don't expect clean sheets every day unless you request it. Its an Eco-friendly resort and they encourage guests to conserve water.

The resort offered a huge breakfast buffet in the main dining area over looking the ocean. Dinner is also served here as well. The food was good but a little pricey at dinner. My boyfriend and I got addicted to the cheeseburger they offer at lunch in the newly built restaurant over looking the pool and beach. They do offer room service as well.

The resort is located near Montezuma which is like a 30 minute drive. I advise renting a 4 wheel drive vehicle or an ATV since the area is very rural and most of the main roads are not paved. There is plenty of activities to do during the day as well as during the night. The food is good and the atmosphere is fun. I also recommend traveling a little further out to see Mal Pais which is about an hour away from Montezuma. The sunsets there are gorgeous.

If you are looking for a relaxing get away I would highly recommend checking out Tango Mar. Its a place where you can forget about all your worries and completely unwind and relax.

“Had a Great Honeymoon Here!!!”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

My wife and I decided to stay at Tango Mar for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did!

It was ideal for us because first, it lived up to our expectation with its breath taking location and wonderful service. We also like the fact that there were hardly any other guests there. It made us feel like Tango Mar was our own private resort. It was very romantic and relaxing.

The owner of the resort was also kind enough to take the time to introduce herself to us (and the rest of the guests) at dinner. She was very genuine and interested in how our stay was going. I can see why her staff enjoys working there.

Furthermore, we greatly enjoyed the Zip-Line Tour package offered through the resort and were able to spend some time in Montezuma afterward. Tango Mar provided us with our own driver who was amiable and helped us with our Spanish :)

We hope to go again and again and look forward to the completion of their remodeled reception area.

“A wonderful gem in Costa Rica”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

I took my wife for a honeymoon in Costa Rica and we spent a week at Tango Mar. The hotel had prepared a room which was decorated in flowers and hearts for us. We both loved the stay, enjoying the beach, the jungle, the waterfall, and wonderful staff. Here is what you need to know.

Tango Mar is located in the middle of nowhere. There are few activities, and this is not a party place. Nor is this a place for children. Tango Mar is for adults, and especially is suited for couples, as this place encompasses you in a romantic atmosphere. The property does sit on a private development, and because it is far from the nearest town of Tambor, population 300, you can expect a lot of privacy. The main hotel has 18 rooms, and is situated literally on the beach. The rooms are large, and are very comfortable.

Besides a clean private beach where one can find coconuts to eat, there is a waterfall, and a jungle behind the hotel. Expect to see and hear howler monkeys if you choose to go on a hike in the jungle, which is a safe activity.

The hotel serves wonderful gratis breakfast, a worthy lunch, and not bad dinner, all reasonably priced. For dinner, I recommend taking a taxi to H&B restaurant in Tambor. The hotel staff is extremely attentive, and will accommodate all reasonable requests.

We relaxed, swam in the ocean (the waves can be rough), hiked in the jungle and had good food. We are already planning a return trip to Tango Mar.

Coming from Los Angeles, I would expect to pay at least $500/night in the States for a similar resort.

“Quiet relaxation”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We stayed for 3 nights - arrived by Interbus and flew out from Tambor. We had a small SUV rental delivered to us and dropped it off at the airport when we left. We stayed 2 nights in a Tropical Suite and one in a beachfront room as my wife sprained her ankle and the front desk quickly arranged for us to get the beachfront room which made for much easier access. The tropical suites are more private but need to walk uphill or use car. The suites were a little older and we did spot a scorpion in the sink on the morning we were moving to the beachfront room. The beachfront rooms were brighter and newer. Safes were available. The suites have jacuzzi in the room but minimal view of the beach. Property is off the main road - security did not seem to be a concern. Grounds were beautiful. Staff was great at the front desk and at the restaurant. Flambe is impressive to watch (search Tango Mar on Youtube). Food choices and taste were good. We arranged for horse back ride and birdwatching trip. Saw about 15 species of birds and a few monkeys. Drove to Montezuma for lunch one day and Malpais for sunset the next evening. Be prepared for unpaved roads after Cobano. Beach was clean but have to be careful with the currents.

“absolute paradise”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

My husband and I honeymooned for 8 days at Tango Mar and absolutely loved it. We stayed in one of the ocean front room that was literally steps from the water. The grounds were lush, tropical and beautiful. This place has romance written all over it. Most days we would just loung at the very scenic (and uncrowded) infinity pool or nap on the hammocks with the sound of the waves singing you to sleep. When we needed a change of pace, we would hike on the many trails that are on the site, we ziplined in montezuma and took an exciting boat ride to beautiful tortuga island. It is very important that I acknowledge the amazing staff at Tango Mar. They were all so accomodating and friendly and made our experience there that much better. We will without a question be back!

“Good service - dirty beach”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

Friendly staff that are really focussed on providing excellent service - especially reception and the restaurants.

The sea if definitely too rough with big waves breaking right on the beach. Even most of the adults did not brave it near the water.

The hotel grounds are kept very clean but unfortunately the entire beach is littered with all sorts of waste from plastic bags to empty bottles. Walking down the stairs from the Royal Beach House to the beach I was welcomed by a big heap of rubbish on the beach.( photos enclosed ) Since this is the private beach of the hotel I think this is a serious oversight of the European owner who lives and manages this hotel. I would recommend they institute a regular beach clean up. Considering the rates and the claims about paradise in their marketing this regular clean up would be absolutely neccessary.

We stayed at the master suite ( photo enclosed ) in the Royal Beach House which was about US 300 per night which included breakfast. It is very comfortable with a well equiped kitchen and large terrace and seperate dining room that can seat 6 persons.

The hotel made a lot of effort to try and convince me to rather take the junior suite in the same house which is a fraction cheaper but have no kitchen or separate diningroom. When we saw the location we were happy that we insisted on taking the Master Suite as the junior suites have a lot of pedestrian traffic in front of them and completely lacks privacy. The people staying there had to keep even the curtains closed all the time so do not be fooled by the pictures of the seaview from the bed that they will send you. Apart from this house there is 3-4 floor building near the main pool which does not look attractive at all but we did not see the rooms. The Tiki Suites that look extremely romantic and attractive on the website is actually right next to an unpaved vehicle path and from the outside left me with no romantic sentiments - so book them with caution especially if you are planning a honeymoon!

Overall the location is very peaceful but the litter found on the beach robbed us of that special enjoyment we had visiting other parts of Costa Rica.

“Best Hotel in Area”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We just arrived back in Houston today March 24 and we spent 7 nights at the Tango Mar and area. We had a rental car and drove from Liberia to Tango Mar. The roads are not the best and some travel was on gravel roads (about 60 miles) but we made it and the drive not too bad if out for some adventure. The roads are not well marked but with a map one can navigate around. Recomend all long distance driving in day light hours.

At the hotel we stayed in the Tropical Suites. I agree with the other reviews that it is not the easiest to get too and would be tough on older senior citizens. We did not have a problem and loved the exercise. One can also drive from the room down to the restaruant. The room was well maintained, good AC and hot water mini bar stocked. Private pool area (nice!). The main pool kept clean with swim up bar. The restaurant was good and yea a little pricy but what you expect for a resort. Since we had a car we had most of our dinners in Tambor about 10 min drive from the hotel.

The staff was very friendly.

The last night in CR we stayed at Playa Hermosa and nice but in my opinnion the Tambor area had the best beaches and less crowded. The town of Carmen has a great surfing beach and is near Tambor.

We spent a day in Tamarindo and was not impressed.

Overall we enjoyed our 8 days in CR and looking forward to going back.

“Book with Knowledge and Caution”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

March 19th and just returned from CR (Tango Mar Resort). We stayed at a private home so this review is not specifically about lodging.

In addition, I welcome any specific questions you may have. Send me an email. I will respond but may be several weeks. I travel extensively and do not get ‘on-line’ regularly. This review is about the location, grounds, beach, and food at main restaurant.

Will I go back for a second visit? Most likely NO. Even though we had use of a multi million-dollar house, I would not make the effort to stay there. Why? Answer is a mixed bag of general feelings about the place.

Observations:

Beach – dark sand, very nice. Not a real long beach. Maybe half mile long? Substantial rocks on either end make passage very risky. When it is high tide, there is not much beach to use and rocks previously mentioned can be nearly covered. You could be stuck by a very high tide. At low tide, very nice. Not sure about safety of water. Never saw anyone to far from shore. In addition, the place did not seem to be very busy.

Grounds – This place is showing its age. It has not been maintained and appears in need of substantial capital to fix up. Golf course is ‘poor condition.’ Greens and tees looked ok, but rest was mostly pasture. Do not count of a great game of golf. Roads inside Tango Mar are rough. You will use either your car or a golf cart. Grounds can be very steep. Getting your luggage/groceries up and down will not be easy. The Tropical Suites might be the most difficult. You have any difficulty with walking. Make sure you are on the lowest level. Check during reservation process to confirm.

Restaurant – This was a disappointment. It was over $125 for four people. Quality and Quantity in question. No way was it worth the money charged. Therefore, this is the main reason you should consider an alternate place to stay. You WILL BE remote from other restaurant options. In addition, you DO NOT want to drive at night. To dangerous. Wonder why? You think you are a great driver. Go see… At Tango Mar you are pretty much captive by their restaurant, in the evenings. Anyone disagree? I would love to hear from you. Here again, we had a huge, fully equipped kitchen. We did our own evening meals and were not captive by the Tango Mar restaurant.

If you do go to that part of Costa Rica, please visit Montezuma. I loved it. And will go back. Very small but busy little beach town.

“Nice and private”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We live in Mal Pais, only 40 minutes from Tango Mar. We had a baby last year, and the grandparents came from Canada to visit. We thought this would be a perfect chance to get away, but didn't want to stray too far...just in case. We had never seen Tango Mar, but thought it may fit the bill. We were a little worried it would be too "resorty" for us, but decided to take a chance.

So glad we did! After travelling so little time to get there we felt like we had travelled for days, it was so quiet. The only thing on this beautiful beach are the resort (which is very un-resorty), and several mansions (which go for $20G/week!). So you can walk up and down the beach and see NO one. Very cool. We decided to splurge (since we paid nothing in airline tickets!) and stayed in the Robinson Crusoe villa, which made our trip amazing. It's at the very end of the hotel, so you have complete privacy and 160 degree view of the ocean. So pretty. It was a small resort, so had very few people, even in January, which is the high season here. Shared the pool deck with, maybe, 3 couples max. at a time.

And the staff was so friendly and accomodating.

Highly recommend!

“Pura Vida! This was an amazing trip”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

This is a very rural country, so if you are looking to 'get away from it all' and totally amerce yourself in the Costa Rican way of life 'pura vida,' this resort is exactly what you're looking for!

Upon arrival at Tango Mar, you'll notice that this is one of the nicest resorts in the county. It's set away from all other resorts, which is perfect if you literally want the beach to yourself (there were only about 5 people on the beach at any given time)

We're pretty athletic, so we loved the 5 mile trek down the beach to Montezuma, a really cute little town. There you'll find a lot more activities (horse back riding, ATV rental, scuba diving, waterfalls, restaurants...etc) If you're at all adventurous, I would definitely recommend the diving and touring the peninsula on ATVs.

It's true about the reviews for the tiki huts, although I never had a complaint about them. Their plumbing is not very good, so flushing toilet paper isn't advised and the tiki huts are exactly what you'd expect from bamboo/wood huts. They are private, but be advised to put a towel under the front door crack just in case it rains. Not because of the water, but crabs. Inevitably, the day after it rains, tiny, bright colored crabs come out. I'm not one for unexpected visitors, but these little crabs are actually cute. Once we heard scurrying on the floor once, we coaxed him out and realized that placing a towel under the door does the trick.

Although this sounds unpleasant, it actually added personality to the trip and the kind of country Costa Rica is, we really enjoyed every minute.

Breakfast is good, they'll make you several choices to preference, the fresh fruit and juices are amazing too. They serve no lunch, so that's a down turn, but dinner is fantastic.

It was the most relaxing, adventurous vacation that I'd been on in a long time. It made me forget all about work and, well the US in general. Fantastic!

“Really good”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

As being a Costa Rican, and the only CR family when we stayed there for New Year's week..., I will tell this is an extremely good hotel regarding service. Probably is the first time I had received such great service in a hotel from the people who work there; and is something that made our stay wonderful.

Because the hotel is in the beach and only 40 rooms, it is very tranquil. Maybe too much tranquil for our kids (12-10-9), but if you're looking for that, this is the place. The only access to the beach is by their premises, so you don’t see strange people at the beach, or too croud.

The restaurant is excellent. I still don't understand the last comment regarding they need improvement, because on the 7 days we stayed there, we had always great meals, the best service, and the prices were maybe ok.

The gardens are also a great issue they have. All the tropical plants, palms, grass, etc. are take care in excellent way.

The rooms, in which we booked the normal ones who are next to the pools and just in front of the beach were nice, with new tile, comfortable 2 queen beds, a mini bar and a very nice balcony view to the beach.

This hotel has 3 stars; I can give them 4 stars upgrade because of the great service, and for being in front of the beach. I hope you enjoy Tango Mar as we did.

“Very relaxing stay! Food needs serious improvements though...”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tango Mar for 3 nights. We had a beach front room (which we highly recommend over the bungalows - b/c a better view, balcony, and the overall location). Our room was extremely clean, a basic beach room, yet very comfortable. The staff was SO nice!!! Especially the waiters and bartenders... BEWARE when tipping though... we were told by some insiders that if paying for a meal or charging your bar tab to your room, tips should be handed directly to your servers. Otherwise, they never see them! That horrified and saddened us - to think that such kind, hardworking, and wonderful staff may not see their well-deserved tips unless they are handed to them directly.

Also the dinner menu left a lot to be desired... and given the remote locale of the resort, you are subjected to the same menu every single night.

The breakfast, however, was a lot better.

Otherwise, the location is spectacular - right on the beach, with a wonderful pool overlooking the ocean. The beach area was clean and very quite/private. Truly relaxing!

“A Fantastic Find”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

I discovered this hotel with a friend a couple of weeks ago, and it was a great find! The Tango Mar is close enough to be able to enjoy Montezuma in the evening but far enough away that the beach is practically deserted. We booked a hotel room overlooking the beach, and I could not believe how great a price we got compared to just how close to the beach we were. It was one of the best sea views I have seen in a while!

As November is still not completely peak tourist season, the hotel was not very crowded. The breakfast buffet was extensive, the pool tranquil and refreshing, and the drinks from Andres at the pool bar delicious. Plus, Hilde, the owner, was always around making sure the guests were happy. We only came for a weekend, and we hated to leave!

My only criticism is when we arrived on Friday night from Alajuela, we wanted to eat at the restaurant so as to not get back into the car. Unfortunately, the only option was the buffet. While the food was delicious, for dinner I always prefer an a la carte option. Otherwise, the stay was perfect!

“The Perfect get away for a romantic honeymoon”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

This hotel is Beautiful, we staid in one of the suits and it was perfect. So private, and romantic the perfect place to spend our honeymoon.

The food was great, pools were clean and the views were breath taking.

LOVED this hotel, was a tad expensive but a great splurge for the two of us in the most beautiful place on earth, would go back if some one was footing the bill.

At $300 a night the food and drinks should be included.

“Subpar Tiki Huts and Lack of Service - would not stay again”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

Subpar Tiki Huts

- Tiki Huts are outdated, broken/missing lights; windows don't close so you hear everything/one around you

- Flowers in room had ants (which spread elsewhere)

- Cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet so you must put it in garbage can in bathroom (entire property, not just Tiki Huts)

Lack of Service

- No food service between 3:30pm (pool cafe closes) until 6:30pm (restaurant opens); same between other meals

- With no other customers around, took 15 minutes to receive Coke after ordering

- Needed special permission to order appetizer and dessert at bar (first by restaurant manager, then owner of property)

-Wanted to celebrate dual 15th anniversaries (2 couples) at special oceanside dinner table usually serving honeymoooners but the owner lied to us because they did not want to accommate 4 people there - restaurant manager said the date was available, but he would have to ask the owner if he could serve 4, then the owner said it was reserved that night (which turns out it was not used that night) so we could not eat there. There was no reason they could not accommodate us other than they usually have it for honeymooners, but it's not right to lie outright.

It's not the 4-star as listed at the property.

“paradice”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We stayed in the royal villa with 8 other friends over Chrismas and New Years and had one of the best vacations ever. Recommend the short 25 min. flight as it can take up to 8 hours to drive from San Jose airport. Hotel picks you up from airport and will set up all of your tours and they will pick you up at the resort.

“beautiful location”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

Tango Mar was our last stop on our honeymoon. Just a warning. If you hate to fly, find other means of transportaion to Tambor. We flew from San Jose to Tambor. It was not a pleasent flight.

The hotel picked us up from the landing strip (there is no airport). The hotel is tucked away from everythig. Don't plan on going out to dinner away from the hotel.

The hotel is beautiful. We stayed in the Tropical suites. They are located up on top of a hill. There are stairs to get to the rooms. The hotel and the tiki suites are on the beach. The tropical suites were beautiful. There are three to a building and we had ours to ourself. They seem to spred out the guests. We also had a small pool for the suites. We did have many guests in our room. We had a crab, a few geckos, ants and spiders. None of them bothered us. They were never near the bed, just on the walls and near the toliet and shower.

The pool is great. The beach is wonderful and private. There was hardly anyone on the beach. Even the pool was queit. There is also a nice area with hammocks that is vey quiet. This is not a partying hotel. Most of the guest sat by the pool reading. It is a place to relax.

The restaurant was wonderful. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. The prices were great, very reasonable for what you get. The last night we had a private dinner on the beach. It was very romantic.

We were very impressed by the staff. They really cater to the guests. The staff went above and beyond. You truely felt like a welcomed guest. It was very nice.

“Secluded beach resort”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

Spent a week at Tango Mar in November 2006. Our room was on the beach next to the swimming pools. The upkeep of this resort is impressive, the food excellent and the beach private. Two of us came from Vancouver and 2 from England and we all

thorough enjoyed our stay and would love to return. We didn't try the golf course but other spoke favourably of it. The only negative point would be the road to get there - it is truly terrible!

“A high price for what you get”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

Tango Mar was our last "resort" before leaving Costa Rica. We stayed in San Jose, traveled to Manuel Antonio to stay at Playa Espadilla (great value) on to Villa Caletas (beautiful) then took the ferry from Puenta Arenas to Paquera to drive to Tambor. Driving in Costa Rica takes the fun out of being there even if you speak and read Spanish. The roads are terrible and the drivers are just as bad. If you like a remote location and a small private beach, you'll love Tango Mar. If you arrive in San Jose and plan on going to Tango Mar then take a plane. The resort is a short drive from the airstrip.

We got the cheapest rooms during Green Season for 4 nights. $160/day is pricey compared to other "resorts". It's a challenge to get there by car. The small towns nearby are nothing to write home about although Montezuma is an OK town to visit and eat there. We had our laundry done for $3 as opposed to Tambor which was $10. On the plus side, the owner, Hilda, is very nice and her staff is very nice. The sand on the beach is fabulous. The surf is rough. The food is good and reasoanbly priced although it's the same price as you'll find in the U.S. The steak is unbelievably tasty and tender. The view at breakfast and lunch is tranquil. There are some very nice homes surrounding the property. We played 9 holes of golf which I can say that the exercise (pulling a cart) was the best part of it. The "fairway" is the rough and the rough is impossible. We were told that if you go farther up the coast (north) that the sand is a beautiful white and the surfing is better than Jaco. But considering driving, we wouldn't do that. We would fly into Liberia and go to Playa Hermosa if we wanted to be on the Nicoya Peninsula and have a nice beach.

“Tango Mar is Wonderful!”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We stayed four nights at Tango Mar recently on a 10 day trip through the country and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the ocean front rooms in a corner room so we had a wonderful view of the lovely beach and the sound of the waves crashing in at night was perfect. The waves were a little intense for swimming but it looked like most of the Costa Rican coast line was like that. The new infinity pool was wonderful however and we saw humpback whales from the restaurant. The food was good and the staff are great. They were the most friendly acommodating people we met in Costa Rica. We also loved the walking trails on the property. Early morning walks to the waterfall were excellent bird watching opportunities. We will stay at Tango Mar again!

“Great, small resort”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We have traveled extensively in Central America, and Costa Rica in particular. We consistently return to Tango Mar for its intimate yet laid back feel, lush grounds, and one the most beautiful, uncrowded beaches you will find anywhere...we have never seen more than 20 people on this 1/4 mile long beach If you like huge resorts with every activity under the sun, this is NOT the place for you. If you enjoy kicking back with a few books, lying in a hammock by the beach, and having a cold local beer, you will love Tango Mar. The restaurant is good, but not great. However, we have found several very good restaurants in nearby Tambor. The beauty of this area is that there are few large resorts so there are never crowds to deal with. We have often found ourselves to be the only people at a restaurant who are not locals. As a result, the service tends to be spectacular and they will do anything you'd like...even prepare dishes that are not on the menu. The accommodations at Tango Mar could use a bit of updating, but by and large they are clean and the daily maid service will take care of anything that needs taken care of.

“Fantastic resort”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We spent five glorious days at this fantastic resort. It is right on the beach, intimate, immaculate, the staff is very helpful, the food quite good with a continental touch to it.

They offer horseback riding, spa treatments, golf, tennis and tranquility. We felt it was perfect for anyone not wanting a megaresort.

We would go back in a heartbeat.

“Fabulous Setting - Very Nice Hotel”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

We've traveled extensively in Costa Rica and visited Tango Mar this fall for the first time. We rate the beachfront setting as the best we've found in Costa Rice or the Carribean. The beach and the landscaping are absolutely beautiful. Hammocks and beach furniture are provided and are a great place to spend a lazy afternoon.

The rooms were fine and about what we expected. Not luxurious, but nice, clean and comfortable (with no insects). We stayed in the main building, which is literally feet from the surf. Our balcony had a stunning view of the ocean and the sunsets. The stars at night in this dark part of the world were incredible.

The staff was courteous and helpful. The restaurant and bar were very nice, with good food. Perhaps a little pricey by Costa Rican standards. The pool is small and is shaded by dense vegetation, leaving the beach as the better option for sunbathing.

We had a car and visited Tambor for meals on several occasions. Tambor is small, but we found three good restaurants. Driving into town at night for dinner was easy.

Montezuma is a 30 minute drive and is interesting, but I would definitely prefer staying at Tango Mar than in Montezuma. We also drove to Mal Pais and would warn travelers that the road there is absolutely awful - even by Costa Rican standards. It wasn't worth it.

Overall, Tango Mar is a great place to go and relax if you like beach locations. It's quiet. comfortable and really beautiful. They also have an executive golf course which was fun. Highly recommend it!

“Peaceful”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

For anyone who goes to Costa Rica and expects 5 star luxury, don't go. We stayed at three hotels during our vacation (my wife and I) and the Tango Mar was the majority of our vacation.

We stayed at the Tango Mar for five nights and loved it. The beach is perfection, it is a golden sand and the ocean is warm. We ran on the beach every morning layed in the sun in the afternoon. It is private, peaceful and extremely clean.

The Tango Mar is a small hotel but offers a couple different options in which to stay. We stayed in the standard room instead of the Tiki Suites because it is closest to the beach and pool. Plus the standard rooms have a balcony overlooking the ocean. The room was clean and comftorable and the bathrooms were very nice (Walk in showers... good water pressure).

The grounds are beautiful, full of flowers and palm trees. There is no lack of tropical feel. The pool is small, don't expect to do any lap swimming but it was well kept.

The staff was fantastic. We knew everyone of them by name and they go out of their way to make sure you are comftorable. There are trips offered by the hotel that let you explore differnt parts of the area. We took a boat ride out to Tortuga Island to do some snorkeling and sea kayaking. It was nice but not spectacular. The hotel also offers horseback riding excursions, guided trips through Curu Wildlife Refuge but we were lazy and this was our part of the vacation to relax.

The food was what kept this review from being a five star rating. The breakfast was great, fresh fruit, omelletes, belgian waffles, pancackes etc.. The lunches are also very good, I like casadas... get to know what that is before going to Costa Rica. Dinners were generaly disapointing. They tried, but we are snobs when it comes to food and were not impressed.

If you are looking for peace and quiet in a tropical setting this is a sure thing. Oh and you will miss the coffee when you go home!

“EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!1”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

If you have been to Tango Mar after 2003 and you did not like this resort / hotel you need help!!

This place was great! Ok it is not the Maldives but hey this is Central America.

It was clean good condition excellemnt food best staff I have ever had the pleaseure to be in contact with. And I have stayed in some of the best hotels around the world.

NOTHING NEGATIVE here. No gym but who cares go for a run outside!!!

GOOD GREAT EXCELLENT WILL BE GOING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Not quite luxury”

Tango Mar Beach, Spa & Golf Resort

My husband, a friend, and I stayed at the Tango Mar for two days mid-October. We rented two of the Tiki suites (high price rooms). The rooms were OK; as a previous poster wrote, the rooms were nice but not luxurious. The hot water didn't work for a good portion of the stay, and the owner parked her golf cart in the parking space below our suite for the entire stay. Luckily, we'd rented two rooms so we had a space for our rented 4x4 but we had 3 times the amount of "stuff" that had to be transported from car to room.

If we go back to the Tambor area, we'll most likely stay somewhere else.
