Otro Lado Lodge

Otro Lado Lodge is a small resort just a few steps from one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Situated in a quiet tropical garden with a swimming pool, the lodge is comprised of four separate residences, each with two levels and can accommodate four people comfortably.

On the main floor of eachdwelling there are two sofa beds, a simple kitchen (equipped with a fridge plus coffee maker) and a private open-air bathroom.

 Santa Teresa  -  Costa Rica.   Tel. +506 2640 19 41

OTRO LADO LODGE is just steps away from the surf best beaches in Santa Teresa. There are two excellent beach breaks and one point break in walking distance from the hotel.

Otro Lado Lodge caters to surfers non-surfers alike wanting to experience a relaxing and wellness vacation.

The lodge is inspired by a blend of Asian and Caribbean worlds. It is located close to surf shops, supermarkets, restaurants and bicycle rentals. This incredible location, so close to the beach and local ammenities, make Otro Lado the resort for the best holiday ever in Santa Teresa.

“Gorgeous getaway”
This was a gorgeous hotel! We stayed near the end of the dry season so everything was very dusty, but this was set back enough that it did not effect you while you were in the hotel area. Kiko(kiku?) was a great Argentinian restaurant near the hotel that had great mojitos! If you are looking for a night life this is not the location to go, everything pretty much shut down around 10pm which was the only disappointing part of our stay. There is a super market in walking distance that you can pick up everything you can need at a decent price including some cheap bottles of wine to get you through the night when other places close. The beach is in walking distance as well, not even a five minute walk away. The rooms were really nice, I would definitely return.

“Super friendly staff...”
... excellent rates, not to mention the delicious italian food, spatious and modern rooms (the beds were a bit hard though) and a really nice pool. Remember to try their focaccias! Yum! A really good deal close to the beach!

“Amazing from the moment we arrived!”
From the moment we arrived with our bags in tow, we were met by Nico and Baggi, who made us feel right at home. We stayed at their lovely villa for five glorious nights and enjoyed some of our best sleep ever. The resort was very quiet at night yet lively during the day. The food was delicious Italian fare and every lunch was topped of with our favorite chocolate salami roll with vanilla ice cream. The service was second to none and you couldn't ask for anything more.

For soccer fans like myself, there was a constant diet of soccer (football) which I enjoyed watching with Nico and any other fans around at the time.

Otro Lado was just such a special place that when we departed we actually felt like we were leaving home. We can't wait for our next stay.

“This is an amazing place & a great value”
Wow....this is a beautiful, simple, lovely gem of a hotel. We didn't want to leave, and when we did, it was the standard to which we held up every other hotel on our trip. We found it by accident, and it ended up being our favorite-- right across from the beach, quiet, lovely, peaceful, with great hosts. This hotel is a paradise within the paradise of Santa Teresa. Wish I could be there now.

“lovely hotel in a disappointing town”
I resolved to write a review of Otra Lado because the owners and staff deserve it for the effort and detail they have put in to this charming little hotel. As I opened Trip Advisor this morning, I see that the last review of a few days ago mentions that the town is dirty. This reviewer is quite right and I feel compelled to agree with him. The dust in the 'town' (really just a dirt road) is intolerable at this time of year but Otra Lado's position, set back one row from the main street makes it a genuine Oasis.

Roselli was in charge when we arrived and this lovely Italian girl could not do enough to make us feel welcome. The owners are also Italian and it is shown in their cuisine, especially the fresh pasta (they make it each day and it's fascinating to watch) and the sandwiches with home-made ciabatta. In fact, we found that Otra Lado was the best place to eat in the town and we would have chosen to have dinner their too if it had been an option - we ate breakfast and lunch every day there and even took their sandwiches away with us when we were on a road trip.

The rooms are comfortable and very clean; sheets and pillows are good quality. The decor is simple and tasteful; Italian good taste with lovely exotic flowers in the rooms.

We enjoyed the serenity of the pretty garden and pool area and the communal area is a charming, cool place to sit on a hot day.

Otra Lado is a very short walk to the beach (5 mins).

“this place is UNREAL”
My friend and I spent a week at Otro Lado Lodge practicing yoga and learning to surf. The place was amazing in all aspects. The food was gourmet restaurant style, fresh and very tasty. The two-story bungalows were nature-inspired ecologically friendly and very very stylish in minimalistic eco decor style. Its a quiet and very cozy boutique hotel, with the hosts who are welcoming and helpful. the beach is less than 5 min walk and its perfect for surfing if you are a beginner or an intermediate surfer.

“A sactuary in a dirty town”
I don't know if it was just when we were there, because I have heard the town was lovely, but the street in this town smelt of rotting fruit. The town itself was very nice and the beach was amazing I just found it weird walking down the street.

That said this place was incredible. It's just across the street from the beach and set back a bit so we didn't feel like we were in the same place. Everything was clean and the room was very comfortable. the pool was nice and the grounds were extremely well kept. It was very safe with a security guard at night and private parking.

“Relaxing and Pleasant”
After spending 5 nights in Mal Pais, my wife and I came to Santa Teresa between Christmas and the New Year to stay at Otro Lado. We stayed in one of the new rooms for the bulk of our time (the original rooms were all booked up), but had one of the original "2 story" rooms for the last night. Though the new rooms are very clean, well laid out, and reasonably priced (very reasonable), they are much smaller than the "original" poolside rooms and you get a different feel for the lodge. Still a very good experience, but we both felt that, had we booked sooner and gotten an original room, we would have been head over heels for this place as opposed to being very enthusiastic.

Nico and Selvaggia are fantastic hosts, the breakfasts and lunches are to die for (be sure to order the crepes for breakfast and the foccacia sandwiches for lunch--outstanding!) and there is a surf shop about 40 steps from the lodge where you can rent a board and walk to the beach.

Overall, you should definitely consider Otro Lado for a stay in Santa Teresa. Great people, really nice lodging and a solid location. We would go back for sure!

“Fantastic”
I have only good things to say about this place. The rooms are great, everything is incredibly clean, the owners are super nice, the location is excellent. I recommend it to anyone heading that way.

“The Eigth Wonder!!!”

Otro Lado Lodge

I'll make this short and sweet...if you're thinking of going to Costa Rica there is no better place than the Otro Lado Lodge...trust me I've see the others! Here you'll be treated like royalty by the lovely Nico and Baggi who run the place, and who will also treat you to great meals and even greater company. The food that comes out of their fun open kitchen is truly outstanding, and you are bound to miss it once you're gone! The accommodations are new, decorated with great taste, clean, and truly beautiful, as is the pool. All are welcome at Otro Lado, from families, to couples, and everyone's treated like a friend. Plus (if she likes you) their lovely dog will walk you to the beach which is only a few steps away! Otro Lado truly is a little piece of paradise, where you can escape into the wild, while at the same time not renouncing to all the conforts of our modern ilfe.

“Best place in Santa Teresa”

Otro Lado Lodge

We stayed at Otro Lado for 6 weeks and it wasn't long enough. The cabinas are great - spacious, clean, beautifully done, hammocks to lounge in. It's right opposite a great surf beach, near to all Santa Teresa has to offer but still quiet and relaxing...... and the best thing... the hosts, they are great and cook the most amazing italian food!!! Will go back the first chance we get.

“Otro Lado Lodge a Paradise in the Paradise”

Otro Lado Lodge

I am Italian but for the sake of getting the message across to as many people as possible I will write in English.

I never been in Costa Rica since my trip to the Otro Lado Lodge (March 2008). I found the perfect conditions of surfing, an incredible nature and the best part of it was my staying at Otro Lado Lodge.

The rooms are amazing I wish I had one like that In New York City where I am living now. By the way even if you are in two, you get a house with 2 floors 2 full beds,1 bathroom, and kitchen on the first and 1 queen and 1 bathroom on the second floor! It's HUGE.)

The food is extremely good (Italian standards!) and varied I ate literally every day at the Otro Lado Restaurant (lunch and dinner). Baggi is the beautiful passionated and talented cook, that every day serves a different menu.

Finally I would like to point out that at Otro Lado Lodge each and every one who works there shows the utmost kindness and devotion to the guest.

Hope to be back soon,

Antonio
