Hotel Poseidon

I just returned from a week in Costa Rica. I only stayed two nights at Hotel Poseidon and I wish I could have stayed longer. I loved everything about this place...the food, the rooms, the service, the location, etc. The beach can be seen from the front door and great restaurants and shops surround the hotel. We spent hours at the hotel bar each night laughing and telling stories with the locals, other tourists, and Mark (the bartender). Internet is available for hotel guests and the staff is very willing to help you with whatever you need. Arial at the front desk was extemely helpful fixing the mess that was created by Interbus (transportation company). **Note: I would NOT recommend using Interbus. Unfortunately, we already pre-booked Interbus prior to arriving in Costa Rica. They forgot us on the way to Jaco and were 3 hours late bringing us back to San Jose.

Overall, my experience at Hotel Poseidon was amazing. We were blown away by the service and amenities that we received at such a reasonable price. I can't wait to plan my next visit!!

“Wonderful small hotel”

Hotel Poseidon

We stayed at Poseidon 2 nights, had a great dinner by the pool both nights. The staff and desk were helpful and friendly, the room spacious and clean, the bath room also good sized and clean. Beds were comfortable Really found nothing not to like.

“Very sweet staff”

Hotel Poseidon

We were very pleased with our choice of hotels in Jaco. It is in a great location (minus the neighbors). Right near the beach! The staff at Hotel Poseidon was very friendly and helpful! Gabriel made sure that we had arrangements to get to our scheduled day trips and all of the staff had good advice about where to go around town. :) Even though we are just two girls from the States that speak broken Spanish we felt very safe, even at night.

I recommend the package trips (my favorite trips were Manuel Antonio and the canopy tours) I also recommend the Crocodile Man tour in Tarcoles.

Thanks again to everyone at Hotel Poseidon, and thanks to Donald for the mimosas! I would love to come back over Thanksgiving!

“Great!”

Hotel Poseidon

For the price you pay, this was a great stay. Of course if you are thinking about 5 star hotel, it might not exceed your expectation. However, the room was clean, staff were nice people, food was great, and atmosphere was very nice. Most of all, the beach was right there which was a great factor for me. The way I put it, the hotel was "Nice and Cozy". I would stay there again but hopefully when there are more waves!! Also don't miss eating @ Jaco Taco on the other end of the town. You will not regret it.

“Perfecto”

Hotel Poseidon

I have been here before and shall return again . Give your staff a raise ! They all were very friendly and prompt . I also enjoyed the location and a very low key environment with reasonable rates . Keep doing what your are doing .

“Perfecto”

Hotel Poseidon

The Poseidon in Jaco was sweet! Very cool. Awesome staff. My Spanish is poor and everyone was very helpful and patient with me (at the hotel and in CR in general). Seemed like everyone at the hotel spoke English too. I took a surfing lesson, and ATV tour arranged through the hotel (Fernando) and I recommend both. Went swimming at the beach everyday. (The beach is great for swimming due to the sand bottom and fun waves, but beware of the currents. You should not go out over your head unless you are on a board.) I got the AC room, and was very happy with it. Fancier than I am used to. I hit the mini bar Imperials and Gatorades as the price was right. Showers were awesome, a necessity in the humidity. I ate at the restaurant several times, and ordered food from the restaurant in the Sports Bar. The other reviews are accurate. Food is awesome (Fish tacos, Shrimp, Breakfast!). I thought that the best bar in town was El Tabacon, which is about 3 doors down. Live music and a fun, mellow crowd. There is a casino nearby with Rummy/Blackjack hybrid. Pretty fun. I also hung out at the hotel Sports Bar, which has Wii on the big screen (bowling, golf etc), and a nice outdoor deck. The bartender in the Sports Bar is Shirley, and she is my favorite Costa Rican that I met. She was very nice, and taught me a lot of Spanish. She also crushed me at Wii bowling.

I was sad to leave Costa Rica and return to Arizona, but had a great time and will go back. Next time I will know more Spanish and go fishing with Donald and surfing with Julie from the Poseidon. *** I actually stayed here twice. I booked it for one night on my way back from Montezuma before heading back to SJ because I liked it.

(I also went to Montezuma and stayed at Los Mangos and took an ATV to Mal Pais, and Santa Teresa (Lots of fun!). Stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport in SJ (efficient).

“Strongly recommended”

Hotel Poseidon

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Poseidon from May 12 to May 18, 2008, and we were extremely satisfied with our experience there. Our room was very clean and ALL those working at the reception were extremely nice and helpful. They recommended activities and booked them for us, and they explained how to get to certain places to which we wanted to drive ourselves. The pool they have in the inner courtyard is also nice and clean, even if a bit overcrowded on weekends.

As many previous reviewers have noted, the hotel restaurant is very, very good, but we have found that the food is a little overpriced at dinner-time (by Costa Rican standards, of course). For less "colones" you can eat equally delicious meals right across the street, at Hotel Colonial. The travel package we got included free continental breakfast, which is very healthy and filling (all sorts of fresh fruits, plus orange juice, bread and marmelade). If you are more into hearty breakfasts, they have an excellent choice of other types of breakfasts, and the prices are very reasonable.

The only glitch during our stay, but one that cannot be blamed on the hotel management, was that there was no hot water for about half a day. We were told that there was some kind of problem in all of Jaco, and that the entire city was left without hot water. Maybe it would help if the managers of Hotel Poseidon introduced boilers in the hotel so that they don't depend on the municipality so much....

Jaco is indeed mostly a surfers' beach but it is very alive by night and we often took long walks through the town after sunset, just looking for a nice place to eat or browsing the many souvenir shops. We used Jaco as our homebase and went on various day-trips to explore the area surrounding it. Jaco is ideally located in this respect because it is within reasonable distance from the airport in San Jose, yet not too far from the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area or even some of the more northern points of interest, like La Poas Volcano and La Paz waterfall gardens. For those who, like us, plan on renting a car, Hotel Poseidon has parking available across the street from the hotel, but it will cost you $3 per day.

“Great Hotel”

Hotel Poseidon

Definitely THE place to stay in Jaco (if you want to stay in Jaco, that is). Hotel has friendly staff that are able to assist you with all kinds of daytrips and activities. The pool, although small for lap swimming, is a welcome amenity in the heat and humidity of the coast. This hotel has a restaurant on the premises that has, without doubt, the best food to be found in and around town. Immaculate, air conditioned rooms rival some of the best hotels in San Jose. Would definitely stay in this hotel again and would empathically recommend it to my friends and family.

“Second time even better!!”

Hotel Poseidon

I stayed at Hotel Poseidon the first week of March. This was actually my second time staying there. The first trip I did a surf camp package with Third World Surf, which was a blast. This time I decided I would surf and venture out on my own. Even though I didnt do a package, Third World was great with helping me find a surf board and I had a great time surfing and hanging out with some of the guys. My room was very comfortable. I went a little overboard on the AC the first day and came back to a freezing room. haha The staff were all very nice and helpful. I went out a couple of nights with the girls in the restaurant and had a lot of fun... Im afraid I wasnt as good a dancer as they were, but they were very sweet and encouraging about my bad salsa dancing. Mark, who works the main bar in the evenings kept me entertained. He is very personable and knowledgeable about Costa Rica. The food was good as always, although I ventured out and sample some of the local food at the sodas. They arranged transportation for me both coming and going and the service was very prompt and professional. Planning a third trip this summer and will definitely be back for a portion of it at Poseidon.

“Great Location / Best Place to Eat in Jaco”

Hotel Poseidon

Although I did not stay at this resort, I did have the opportunity to eat at their restaurant and to spend some quality time in the Sky Lounge & Sports Bar. Believe me, after spending 2 days watching soccer, it was a great relief to find Leather Couches, AC, and a wide variety of American Sports. The owner Tim was nice enough to put the TB Lightning game on the Large Screen for us.

The food in the restaurant was the best that I ate during my entire trip and that included a meal at the Los Suenos Marriot. There are candle lit tables out by the pool. The pool looked extremely clean and the pool had a cool swim up bar. The bar in the restaurant is well stocked, the bartenders are knowledgable mixologists and the drinks are potent!

I would also mention that Chef Patricia, of the Poseiden, who we had the opportunity to meet, has opened a new restaurant, The Dragon Next door to the hotel and it has some of the best Chineese food that I have ever had! In my group of 10, everyone agreed.

The location of the Poseiden is Ideal. They are located on El Bohio Street. Just off Jacó centro (The Main Strip). I spent several nights along Bohio. The El Bohio Beach bar is open air with pool tables, couches, and a beautifull view for sunsets. Mid Street are the Dragon and the Poseiden, and where Bohio meets the main strip is the Tabacon Bar and Restaurant. The Tabacon had a rock and roll band each and every night and had imperial by the pitcher. Alot of americans and a homey feel.

When I travel to Jaco in the future, I will be sure to not only eat, but also to stay at the Poseiden.
