Hampton Inn and Suites - San Jose Airport Hotel

“Perfect for going in and out of San Jose airport”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

As far as coming in and out of the San Jose airport, this hotel was perfect. They had a free 24-hour shuttle to the airport, which was very handy. Their breakfast was great, and they even had to-go bags if you are in a hurry. Also free internet.

The room was extremely clean, and the amenities much nicer than most hotels we saw in Costa Rica (including nice cold air conditioning). We even took advantage of ordering food to the room from the restaurants around, which the front desk was very helpful with.

Highly recommended if you have an early morning flight out of San Jose, especially since you have to get to the airport so early because of the insane lines.

“Godd hotel, convenient to Airport”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

I usually stay at this hotel when I have an early morning flight out of San Jose. My last stay was March 20, 2007.

The hotel serves an excellent breakfast including Gallo Pinto. Free wireless internet throughout the hotel but my room on the third floor did not have a good signal so I had to use my laptop in the lobby.

My main complaint with this hotel is the lack of in-room safes. Never, ever leave your valuables unsecured in any hotel in Costa Rica. The lack of in-room safes forced me to always take my laptop and other valuables with me whenever I left my room.

“Great hotel”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We stayed at Hampton Inn just before departing for Panama.... it was such a nice place to end our Costa Rica trip. It obviously didn't have the ambiance of a little beach bungalow in Santa Teresa, but the place had all the amenities we were looking for at that point of our trip: The beds were super nice and comfy (a little hard, but aren't they all down there??) with down comforters and nice pillows. The bathrooms were spotless, and had all the hot water you could ever want. We basicaly did all the things that we went on vacation to avoid doing... spent a lot of time just laying around watching American Tv shows (food network, the simpsons, etc.) ate at the nearby Denny's, stopped by the Casino. It was great!!!

I would highly recommend staying here if you want to sleep well, and feel rested before catching an early morning flight. Definitely cured a little homesickness before venturing on to see the rest of C. America!!!

“Convenient for airport”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

The best thing about this hotel is it is a couple of minutes from the airport so perfect for an early flight. However it is just a Hampton Suites and not at all Costa Rican. There is a good casino a short walk away

Booked because I thought the Hertz office was across the car park but they have now moved about a mile away.

“Great for first or last day”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Great quick locationt to airport about 2 minutes away via free shuttle. Walk to Rosti Pollos restaurant typical Tico chicken place. Walk to casino. Wanted an American style hotel and that is what I got. Great place to stay on last night in costa rica or first night.

“First Rate hotel”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We stayed at this hotel on September 1 and really enjoyed it. The counter woman was very helpful and friendly and answered all of our questions. The room that we had with double queen size beds was rather large and comfortable. The hotel had complimentary high speed internet which was something that the Fiesta resort in Puntarenes didn't have. We payed 5 dollars an hour there for internet usage. Another nice touch was the free breakfast provided in the morning. It included toast, bagels, danish, biscuits, cold cereal, juices, and fruit salad on the cold side. On the hot side it had scrambled egg patties, sausage patties, hot cereal, rice and beans and some other Tico item which was covered in a banana leaf. The breakfast was fine. The hotel also provided brown bags to go for those who may have been in a hurry. The rental car center was right across the street, easy walking distance so that you could return your car, walk back to the hotel and take the shuttle to the airport. It was well worth the money.

“Great spot for 1 night before flight home”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We stayed at the hampton inn on our last night before heading home and it was just what we needed after a long drive from the Nicoya area. A reasonable price-110 for a double but it was so close to the rental car return and to the airport we didn't want to search for a budget place. It is a very comfortable place with great beds and an above average breakfast spread. One downfall is no restaurant- choices are Denny's or a local chicken chain restaurant- GO TO DENNY"S- at least you know what you're getting. The other place was pretty lousy but we got sucked in because we wanted something local- it had nothing on the roadside soda joints which I still think serve the best food in CR.

“Very hard to find anything wrong”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

I have stayed at this hotel four times on business. Like most Hampton Inns, this hotel delivers great value for the money: free airport shuttle, free breakfast buffet, free in-room broadband internet access, pool, etc. The hotel is a two-minute ride from SJO airport and shuttle service is free, frequent, and friendly.

Unlike many airport-vicinity hotels, the Hampton Inn meets the needs of business travellers. Rooms seem to be always ready for occupancy whenever one arrives. The business center, although tiny, is free and open 24 hours a day.

The only negatives -- and these are very minor -- pertain to space and staffing levels. The lobby is tiny. The front desk has only two computer terminals and frequently has only one front desk clerk. As a result, check-ins and check-outs can take longer than they should. On my most recent visit, I waited in a very short checkout line for almost 20 minutes between 5:25 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., while the only desk clerk took care of guests departing for early morning flights.

Speaking of staff, they are uniformly outstanding: friendly, understanding of customer needs and expectations, and fluent in English. Even the housekeeping staff are among the most pleasant that I have ever encountered.

The breakfast buffet is excellent, with both American and Costa Rican cuisine (the Costa Rican food is better, in my opinion). Again, the only drawback is lack of space: the relatively small size of the dining area. One some occasions, there have been no available seats.

The hotel is within a short walk (less than 100 meters) of several casual restaurants.

“Convenient and Pleasant But Not Really Comfortable”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

This property cannot be beat for convenience, of course, since it is so close to the airport and perfect for a night's layover.

The shuttle bus from and to the airport runs regularly and the hotel's staff members were all very pleasant.

The rooms are fairly large but basic. They are clean, too. The sheets, however, are low quality and scratchy, and the pillows are lumpy as coal. The water pressure in the shower was not impressive and our showerhead, which was too high to reach for the average person, was broken.

In the middle of the night, or early in the morning, I am not sure which, the explosive sound of a jet taking off awakened us and was quite an alarm.

Breakfast was average at best.

Really, this property is not worth the nightly rate, but the convenience of the location and the fact that there are no other motels so close to the airport (that we are aware of) makes it, as others have commented, a fair weigh station.

“Nice waystation.”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We spent our first night here before flying to Quepos. I agree that it is very clean and the staff very pleasant. The only noise that we heard were planes taking off early, but that was not unexpected. The breakfast was fine, if predictable. If there were any nice restaurants nearby (not Dennys) we didn't see them. You will never forget a taxi ride into San Jose during rush hour. No road rage, but apparently no rules of the road either! Glad that I wasn't driving. Our cab, arranged by the hotel, picked us up after two hours and spirited us back to the hotel. The hotel was also reasonably priced and the shuttle is very convenient.

“Very nice...”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

My Husband and I ended our honeymoon at the Hampton Inn near the airport in San Jose. We chose to stay there the last night of our stay and it was the only chain hotel out of the 4 different hotels we stayed at during our Honeymoon in Costa Rica. We were very pleased with our visit. Upon arrival they quickly checked us in and we were told that since it was our honeymoon they have upgraded us to a suite. When we arrived in our room there was a bottle of wine on our bed as well. We thought it was a very nice touch. The hotel is located in a very good area, there are a couple of restaurants nearby and you can easily catch a cab to downtown San Jose as well. There is a shuttle that runs frequently to the airport so getting to and from the airport is very easy. The complimentary breakfast is also very nice. All in all we highly recommend staying at the Hampton Inn.

“A Very Nice Hampton Inn”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Like many of the other reviewers, we spent our last night in Costa Rica here. This hotel is directly opposite several of the car rental companies and there is a shuttle to the airport. You can drop off your car and walk over to the hotel. The place was spotless and the staff was very attentive. It had a much better than average breakfast with lots of local fruits on the menu.

Security seemed to be everywhere in the hotel, which may or may not give you a warm and comfy feeling.

We would stay here again.

“Great Last Night in Costa Rica”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Our last night in Costa Rica was spent at the Hampton Inn by the airport in San Jose. It was a standard room with two queen beds. Lots of security in the lobby that made you feel safe. Clean and nice with reliable shuttle service to and from the airport. This hotel is not a destination hotel, only a last night or first night to be close to the airport. Continential breakfast in the morning is included in your stay and was o.k. In the parking lot are rental car agencies, so all you have to do is walk 100 feet to get a car.

Another plus is that there is a Denny's restaurant in the parking lot. Our kids were excited about eating there after eating Costa Rican food for over a week.

“Airport Convenience Priority”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Our 1st two nights in Costa Rica were spent at the Hampton Inn. A shuttle was waiting for us when we arrived, which also leaves for the airport about every 15 min. or so. Excellent!

The only real complaint I have of the hotel itself are of the doors slamming continuously thru the nite. It would have been nice to have guests think a little more on the courteous side and close the doors a little easier instead of letting them slam shut. I would suggest that the hotel invest in door closers so the doors do not slam shut.

The breakfast is pretty good.

The staff is excellent.

We were off to the more remote areas of Guanacaste for the next 8-9 days, then back to San Jose for one last night before leaving for home in the States.

After experiencing the Tico culture in Guanacaste and returning to the Hampton in San Jose...what a culture shock. I'm afraid I was put off by the "ugly Americans" staying at the hotel. Oh well...whaddya gonna do except try not to be one of them. ;-)

Overall, a pleasant place to stay and "ease" into the Costa Rica lifestyle.

“Great Choice”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We spent most of our trip travelling and taking risks by staying in random and adventurous places, but by the last night we just wanted someplace clean and homey to stay. This hotel was great. It was much nicer than some of the other accomodations for which we paid the same price. It was great to have some of the comforts of home like high speed internet, a very clean and comfortable room and good service. I would reccomend this hotel for travelers who have flights early. We had a flight at 8am and were able to get up, have a nice breakfast (free) and get an immediate shuttle to the airport. It was worth the money to have a nice place on our last night! :)

“Familiar, Good Quality, Convenient to Airport”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

I find myself wanting to contradict some of what I see here. I concur most with the first review. I don't understand why it is only rated a 2-star. I also had a great stay. I rate the hotel "above average" rather than "excellent" because it's not a big luxury hotel or resort. That said, it's extremely clean, quiet (no party the four nights I was there) and has all the amenities one might want in this day -- including complimentary breakfast, pool, and free internet (cafe, high speed in the room, and wireless in the lobby), free parking, and a free airport shuttle. The staff was just fine. And, if you belong to one of the usual affinity groups, you can beat the rate given here by many dollars -- at least in February.

Incidentally, one really great "feature" (?!) is that it's less than 100 feet from several familiar rental car agencies. You can pick up and drop off your car, and take the shuttle to/from the airport -- saving a rental day?

I and other people I spoke with who were staying there were most grateful for this hotel at the beginning and end of a trip to Costa Rica -- before and after you immerse yourself in all the country's treasures.

One last point: While this evidently carries a San Jose address, it's really in Alajuela, where the airport is. I looked for it in Alajuela listings, and then (easily, of course) jumped over to here.

“Good value for money”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Approximately 1/2 mile from the airport, this hotel is very convenient for late night arrivals or early morning departures. The hotel has a free airport shuttle which runs 24 hours. Rates are reasonable with occasional specials, and include a continental breakfast with some hot food available. All guests are given free internet access.
The hotel does not have a restaurant on site but a fast food chicken resturant is just down the street. In addition, the hotel will provide free transportation to 3 featured restaurants in San Jose.
Rooms are decent-sized and can include a microwave and refrigerator. Decor is generic American (could be in any city in the US). The hotel pool is very small.
Staff is very accomodating and friendly.

“A great placed to stay”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

I am happy to write the first review that Hampton Inn and Suites is an excellent place to stay. The room are very comfortable. The staff is so helpful everything to calling cabs or suggesting a place to eat. We especially enjoyed the free internet service. Breakfast is also very good.

“Perfect Last Night in Costa Rica”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

We lived "on the wild side" for most of our Costa Rica trip. On the last night, we opted to stay at the airport since our flight out was VERY early. The Hampton Suites was the perfect "last night" in Costa Rica. The hotel offered large, clean rooms with mini fridge and internet ports. There was also a free internet cafe (2 computers) in the lobby. Besides immaculate rooms, there was also quick, efficient transportation to the airport and a large complimentry american breakfast.

I'm not sure why this hotel only has a 2 star rating. It is quite new and offers every amenity one would expect in a 3 star hotel. Would DEFINITLY recommend.

“Hotel pratique et de bon niveau”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Bon confort et calme. Qualité des petits déjeuners à améliorer. Proximité de l'aéroport très pratique. Pas de restaurant mais des possibilité de repas aux alentours.

“Als Transferhotel Spitze!”
Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Hampton Inn & Suites Airport San Jose

Confortable, propre, pratique et fidèle à la chaîne américaine Hampton.
