The Nicoya Peninsula in general and in particular Mal Pais is an ideal place to have some fun in the sun. Get on that surf board or boogie board and surf the fantastic waves. Take time to lounge or walk along the white sand beach or travel on Horseback exploring the surrounding area and its natural landscapes. The ocean is an excellent place to do some fishing and catch beauties like the Yellow Fin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish.

We spent two wonderful weeks at Franks Place, a quiet hotel sitated 200 m from playa Carmen, a very good surf beach. The hotel is in the villgage centre with banks/ATM, surf shops, a bakery and a couple of rertaurants.
A very nice cuban restaurant in the hotel area with friendly owners, they also serve a good breakfast inkuded in the hotel room price.3 pools directly outside the restaurant., all kept clean
The rooms are tidy and we had hot water, a/c and TV.

clean and well kept hotel. manicured gardens around a refreshing pool. pleasant and helpful staff in the hotel and especially in the restaurant. deliciously prepared breakfast was part of the package. unfortunately the restaurant was closed for dinner the evening we were there..we will have to plan another stay to sample the cuban influenced offerings there. very enjoyable.

It looks institutional from the outside, but check out the inside. it's a beautiful landscape, not in a resort, too uniformed garden kind of way. 3 swimming pools. 1 big & 2 smalls. we stayed at the room with private room with a fan for $40 including tax and breakfast. it's the nicest place we've stayed in costa rica, but then again we'renot the kind of people who don't stay at places over $40.
the backyard is lush, undeveloped greenery while you're swimming at the pool. the airyrestaurant is also very nice. i'll put the pictures later. we liked it there so much we stayed for 3 nights (we only intended 1)

Nice place, not outstanding but nice rooms with A/C, cable TV, the restaurant (Azucar) is not part of the hotel, and the lady (I assume also the owner) said no when I asked for a glass of water and ice, because I wasn't buying anything (Miserable). Check-in time was at noon but our room was ready at 15:00. Even with the delayed check-in, the day we left the girl in the front desk called us to remember to be punctual at check-out... Can you imagine that?
