Hotel Magic Mountain
Loved the Magic Mountain!! It is a perfect location for touring the area. It is a new and beautiful property. Rooms are ample and views can't be beat. The front desk staff is very helpful. We loved the pool area. Had a swim up bar, but no one as there, a flat screen TV and jacuzzi! Very kid -friendly place yet luxurious enough for couples too.

Our only compliants about the room was the lack of drawer space. WE did not have a dresser in our double room and had to put clothes on shelves. The tub is also very high so it is quite difficult getting in and out of the shower. We were so pleased with the hotel accomodations however, they acciodentally washed my sons stuffed animal with the sheets, but one phone call and housekeeping found it!
Contrary to what the previous reviewer stated, we had some dificulty with the restaurant. The service is the slowest I have ever seen and their is a great language barrier. We had difficulty getting what we needed for our kids and were never greeted witha smile! The choices are decent but heavy and we only had a breakfast buffet offered one of the 3 days. Save your time and $ and get a 2 dollar cab to go to town. We really liked Luigi's for Pizza and pasta.
The view from our room was incredible. When else can you wake up go on your balcony and see a volcano erupting. At night you can see orange lava and during the day lots of smoke. Truly incredible.
Would also recommend Desafio tours, Sky tram and volcano tour and Tabacon Hot Springs, and definately stay at Magic mountain!
“Picture Perfect setting at the Foot of Volcano Arenal”
Hotel Magic Mountain
I booked my reservation through Bookit.com. We didn't really know what we were getting, other than the promise it is a great hotel in a really good area. My wife and I stay there for three nights. We arrived slightly after noon time, our check -in was handled very efficiently. We had a tour booked in the afternoon, and had very little time to have lunch, the restaurant was very willing to get us two box lunches of sandwich and fries. The best part is, it is not even on their menu. The front desk staff that we came in contact with, was very helpful and knowledgeable of all the tours. My wife forgot her camera charger, they were able to direct us to town and were able to buy a universal charger for about $8.00. In New York or anywhere else in the US, it would have cost someone anywhere from $20 - $50. The Cab to town is $2.00. The Buffet Breakfast in the mornings is presented so wonderfully, you might forget about taking pictured of the volcano and turn your camera on the food presentation. They have fresh fruit, cold cuts, toast, cereal, cheese, pancakes, sausages, bacon, fried plantains and ah, authentic Costarican breakfast, rice and beans and a meat dish. Hey don't ask me about it. I am telling you only what I saw. We had lunch one day, but it was very heavy, since they really only have a dinner menu. I informed the restaurant manager and he agreed and he informed we that they were working on a lunch menu. They also have a welcome drink for either bookit guests or all guests. A coupon is handed at check in along with the key. Coupons are also handed for free breakfast. One of the days, they had a $11.00 buffet dinner. It was amazing. On our third day, we requested the restaurant for sandwiches and fresh fruit for lunch. Again out request was met. The rooms are newly renovated, kept clean, and have all the amenities, hairdryer, safe, iron and ironing board. They have a great laundry service in house. Forget about ironing your clothes, it's cheaper to have them do it. The water pressure is very good. The beds are very comfortable. There is a mini fridge with a few drinks and water. There is a coffee Maker and they serve only the best Costarican coffee. There is a balcony for each room with seating for two and a view of the volcano. They have a nice size swimming pool, a kid's pool, a pool with bar and two jacuzzi's. They have a sports bar on top of the restaurant with pool tables. Our check out was handled very efficiently. The hotel is close to downtown for souvenir shopping. And also to some of the tours we took. They have free internet on a lone work station in the lobby. No Wi Fi, but hey you are on vacation. We did decide to spend some of our time before leaving the hotel on the grayline shuttle in the evening having desert and coffee. It was definitely worth it.
“Very Pleased”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We arrived on foot (in the rain) from the Bus Station at La Fortuna and this Hotel looked the best of all from the outside.
But I never judge from appearances.
The stay was just 2 nights, and the weather was fair with a lot of rain too (it was July in Costa Rica). The first night there was a terrific thunder and lightening storm - that it was impossible to venture out.
The Hotel to our surprise delivered a plate of fresh cut fruit to the room during the first evening. Dinner too was delivered to the room as they needed to close the restaurant earlier. High marks for customer service on both counts.
Breakfast was excellent, the rooms themselves were big, modern, very comfortable each with a large sit out balcony - with a close up view of Volcán Arenal itself (although shrouded in cloud). I am not a user of swimming pools - but the other guests made full use of it and the sound of families (all ages) enjoy the pool was not in the least distracting.
I really liked this hotel, met indeed surpassed expectations although not cheap it did represent good value in my opinion.
“wonderful Hotel!”
Hotel Magic Mountain
Stayed at Magic Mountain for 3 nights-best of the 3 hotels we stayed at! The first night we had a minor problem with one of the 2 locks on our door ... fixed immediately and done in a cheerful and pleasant manner. The breakfast included was pretty good (beautiful presentation) and far superior than most of the meals we had to pay for. We ate there for dinner -excellent chicken with asparagus sauce!
Our room was VERY clean, staff was very friendly and attentive and liked it better than some of the fancier hotels we stayed at (Los Seunos resort and Spa )
“Great hotel!”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We stayed at Hotel Magic Mountain from May 29th- June 2nd. We arrived in La Fortuna around 9pm, we had been traveling all day so all we wanted was to lay down. Check-in was easy and room service was quick.
When we woke up in the morning we opened our curtains and the Arenal volcano was looking right at us. It was a clear day and it was so beautiful.
Breakfast was included and delicious, starting with a fruit plate every morning.
We booked our first excusion, of ziplining through the hotel, it was a great trip, but we found out we could book it for cheaper outside the hotel, so from then on we went to an outside vendor for better deals.
Overall, it was very clean, and the staff was very friendly, I highly recommend staying there.
“Nice hotel”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nigths and it was pretty good.
The hotel is new and the rooms are great..Regarding the food, we did't have dinner in the hotel but the breakfast was very yummy and it was included in the room price.
“Home Away From Home”

Could not find many reviews on this hotel so thought I would pay it forward for the help I received from this site while planning our trip to Costa Rica. When we checked in they had given us a room with 2 queens instead of king. We also were upgraded to a suite. This is the kind of attitude shown the entire 4 days we were there. Every room has a balcony with view that overlooks the pool, a pasture of grazing cattle (don't worry no smell), and the green side of the volcano. Very serene view. Room was spotless, grounds maintenance immaculate, and restuarant food as good as anywhere else we went. There are a lot of tour groups that stay here but we felt this was a plus. They arrive around 6, are a quiet group, and leave by 9 the next morning - gone by the time we made it down for breakfast. We had the attention of the staff and the place to ourself during the day. They helped with car rentals, restuarants, tours, etc. Yes, this is an "American" style hotel with the amneties comparable to that of a Hampton Inn. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and the country is ever so beautiful, however, after a day of hiking, ziplining, rafting, suspension bridges, etc. it was comforting to us to return to a room that reminded us of home
“Beautiful New Hotel - Great View”
Hotel Magic Mountain
Just returned from a week in Costa Rica. 4 nights spent at Hotel Magic Mountain. When I first booked, there were very few reviews, so I was a little nervous. Now I see there are many more reviews.
All of my concerns were easily put to rest the minute I walked into my room. We were upgraded to a suite, I guess because they were not full that week. It was gorgeous. Two full beds (a little tight for two people in one bed, but still good). Nice bedding, pretty art on the walls. It had a balcony with a small table and chairs that overlooked the pool and spa. All of the rooms face this way, so not to worry. Also, great views of the volcano. Very close, but to the green side. Lava was not flowing on this side during our stay, however, we did see smoke coming out of the top a couple times which was nice. Huge bathroom and shower. And, the room was spotless! I even broke a glass on the floor and used a towel to wipe up the glass. I thought the towel would show some dirt, but it didn't. The rooms were really clean. The only downside was that there is not a lot of room to unpack clothes. A small closet with a couple shelves and a small bar for hanging clothes. Also, the closet was in an awkward place right next to the bed. Made it a little difficult to get to. But, my husband and I are notorious for over packing. They also have a computer in the lobby, which was great for keeping in touch with family.
As far as location, it is only a couple minute drive to town. I guess you could walk, but it would take about 1/2 hour I think. I rented a jeep, so we were able to come and go as we pleased. For me, that's the only way to do it.
There is a lot more I could write, but I tend to be a little long in my reviews. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions I didn't answer. This site was the only way I was able to book such an awesome trip to Costa Rica, and I am happy to share now that I've gone.
“Wonderful”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We stayed here as part of a Caravan Tour. We were very impressed by this beatiful new hotel. All rooms face the Arenal Volcano and the view is spectacular. The pool is large and attractive. There is a single internet terminal free for use by guests. The buffet meals were pleasant, but not great, but the al-fresco dining was a treat. Above the restaurant is an American-style sports bar. It wasn't doing much business, but drink prices were very reasonable. This was a truly memorable place that I would gladly stay in again.
“Incredible!! What a view!!”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We had a fab time at this fairly new and beautiful resort. We were going to stay at the Tabacon Resort again and I'm so glad we did not. This place has only 30 rooms-we were upgraded to a jr. suite as they were full and it had a wonderful hot tub in the room, enormous bathroom and plasma flat screen TV. The view from the hot tub window to the volcano (which was clear to the top for the view) was like you were 50 steps away from it! We had the beautiful pool to ourselves. The landscaping was also always being worked on by the workers there and was very pretty. Liked Don Rafinos-Grandmas chicken and loved NeNe's restaurant. A little secluded and romantic-everything comes out flaming! Great Hotel and a great rate too!!
“Loved this hotel and hope to return”
Hotel Magic Mountain
I booked this through Costa Rican Trails (would never use again) and thought this hotel was terrific. It happened that they had two groups there (when checking I thought "ugh" as the buses unloaded) but without my asking, they upgraded us to a junior suite away from the groups. Dinner at the restaurant was wonderful and one of the best quality and priced meals we had while in La Fortuna. Breakfast was a buffet one day (wonderful) while the groups were there and off the menu the other days. The staff was great, arranged any tours we wanted, were always friendly and able to answer questions. The cosmo from the bar was the best I've ever had-bar none. We are planning to return to Costa Rica again and will hope to stay here a few nights.
“Clean, Convenient”
Hotel Magic Mountain
Great location. Easy to get to all of the activities. Very clean and "american" type hotel. No complaints, but not a party place. I went with 3 other 20 somethings who were just looking for adventure - no parties for a few days and this place was great. Amazing view, great pool, internet. Definitely recommend.
“Great place”
Hotel Magic Mountain
I had a great time there...although I was traveling solo and in my late 20s there were a lot of older people. I felt like I was in a retirement home. Sorry...but there were bus loads of tour buses.
I loved the place overall though. It was clean, a good place to end where i could put my feet up. The staff was always so nice and so helpful...
i would recommend this place to anyone
“Very Very Nice”
Hotel Magic Mountain
Very nice hotel
Very nice and helpful reception excellent staff
Very nice pool - Two whirlpools - Excellent heated pool bar
Very nice views of the Volcano – all rooms had a view
Very clean
Very nice, elegantly decorated rooms, well taken care of
Excellent room service
Very nice food
Breakfast a little slow, felt sorry for the two ladies cooking the eggs
Pool towels a bit thin
Comfortable pool chairs
Very organized, professional staff
Strange restaurant set up
Hotel still being finalized
Spa and Bar to be finalized – Construction work did not interfere with the holiday
Located about a 15 minute walk from the main town
The volcano does not erupt every night. We naively were lead to believe that it did. We spent two nights waiting for the show but nothing happened.
Baldi hot springs is very nice and apparently less crowded than Tabacan, and also a third of the price. – Recommend to book with the small tourist office located just at the bottom of the hill before entering the town. Young man, very informative offered the lowest prices on all tours. We paid 19usd to enter Baldi.
Baldi consist of several hot spring pools…some were a little too hot. Beautiful gardens at the top of the Theme very nice food.
Seemed popular with the older generation
Very easy place to travel around and to see the local environment
The hanging bridges tour, very nice, be prepared to walk a lot (2-3hrs), wear good shoes. Don’t expect to see any animals apart from birds and ants as well as the occasional ant eating animal.
“Wonderful Hotel near town”
Hotel Magic Mountain
This hotel is exactly a $2.00 USD ride from La Fortuna town center which makes it great for those that don't have a car to get somewhere nice for dinner in Costa Rica outside your hotel.
The hotel is VERY clean, no carpeting in rooms every room has a balcony with a table and chairs. Breakfast was great, clean friendly wait staff. Depending on how crowded the hotel is will depend if the breakfast is buffet or A la Carte.
The only thing that was slightly odd was that the front desk is unattended from 10 pM - 6 am. there is still a security guard out in the front to control what cars and people come into or out of hotel grounds, but no front desk, found this out when trying to set a wake up call at 11 PM.
I would DEFINATELY stay here again, although I assume once the word on the street is out at how amazing this place is, it'll either shoot up it's prices or it will be hard to find a vacant room.
“Loved it! The best hotel I've stayed in CR”
Hotel Magic Mountain
My wife & I stumbled across the Magic Mountain hotel while looking for a place to stay in La Fortuna. I tried a couple other hotels that were all booked up (Lomas del Volcan and Los Lagos).
But there sat this new very expensive looking hotel (with an awefuly cheezy name).
I figured I would give it a shot.
Turns out it was significantly cheaper than the last 2 hotels I had tried, and it looked very nice.
So I looked at the room, and wow! 3.5 or 4 star accomodations.
They had a pool, hot tub, and every room was a view of the volcano.
Breakfast was included in the room price (and tax too), and it was also really good.
We stayed there the next 2 nights, and loved it. It was a beautiful hotel, with beautiful rooms.
We couldnt be more pleased.
“New hotel with good service”
Hotel Magic Mountain
Beautiful view from the room. Despite the fact that this is in town, the view out the balcony is of nicely landscaped hill. The service was
great - they delivered a smoothie to our room right after check in. The attached restaurant serves excellent food as well. We didn't get to see Arenal while we were there due to the weather, so I can't comment on the view.
“Loved it”
Hotel Magic Mountain
We switched to this hotel after being disappointed with our first choice in La Fortuna. We were immediately impressed with their gorgeous rooms, outstanding customer service and friendly staff. Front desk is always willing to help book excursions and the hotel manager went out of his way to make our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. They are a new establishment and are definitely on the right track to becoming one of the top resorts in the area. Thank you Magic Mountain!
“Espectacular”
Hotel Magic Mountain
