Hotel Lomas del Volcan

The private cottages at this 'hotel' were a little bit more rustic (no tv) than my husband and I expected and we were hesitant at first, but ended up loving our 2 night stay at Las Lomas. Each little cabin has an amazing view of Arenal and the pool area was quite nice.

“Cozy and adorable”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

The private cottages at this 'hotel' were a little bit more rustic (no tv) than my husband and I expected and we were hesitant at first, but ended up loving our 2 night stay at Las Lomas. Each little cabin has an amazing view of Arenal and the pool area was quite nice.

The hotel staff was nice, but not overly friendly and the breakfast buffet was only so-so. But the location is optimal to enjoy the volcano and the sights in La Fortuna/Arenal. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Tranquil and Beautiful Scenic Views”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

My husband and I were on a Caravan tour for our honeymoon and had the pleasure of staying at Lomas del Volcan for two nights.

You have a little walk to your very own little cabin which was clean and had some cute decorative towels awaiting us. They have arranged the cabins so that off of your back porch (each cabin has one) you really can't see into another cabin. I felt as if we had privacy and better than that you are at an amazing spot to see Arenal Volcano. The only thing is that you need to wake up at around 5 a.m. to get a look before the clouds cover it up.

Aside from the view, the hotel had AMAZING food. Our 45 person tour really enjoyed the stay and great Costa Rican cuisine.

“Wonderful hotel!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas del Volcan was the best hotel of our 10 day stay. The front desk staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

We had seen photos on line, but the reality exceeded our expectations. Our private chalet, built of beautiful local hardwood, was very luxurious and large. It had a separate back porch, complete with fridge, and a large separate luggage area - a real treat when traveling 4 to a room.

We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet - it offered a large variety and was of high quality.

Although slightly away from La Fortuna, up a gravel road, the hotel had a unique character. A wonderful place to relax and recharge our batteries!

“Fabulous!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We were with a tour group travelling about this region. Unfortunately, we could only stay one night at this fantastic location. After arriving late in the pouring rain, we carried our bags up a somewhat steep hill to our room, then walked back down to the restaurant for a bite to eat, which was good.

There is a telephone but no television, which is fine with us. There is air conditioning, which is operated by a remote control. We had two king beds in our room, which was clean with plenty of towels and hot water. There is a front porch with a bench and a back patio facing the volcano with a table and four chairs for fine viewing. A coffeemaker and coffee were provided in the room.

The following morning the sun shone brilliantly allowing us a terrific opportunity to view Arenal Volcano without cloud cover. We walked the grounds taking several photos. The buffet-style breakfast was quite good with many choices. The staff was friendly and the room was huge, with the largest shower ever!

It is a beautiful area with the volcano nearby, as well as opportunities to eco-glide and to visit the Hot Springs of Ecotermales. This is something NOT to be missed. A gorgeous and relaxing setting with the best pina coladas ever!

Enjoy!

“Most beautiful place..mother nature at her finest”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This was the most beautiful hotel I have ever been too. Our back porch looked out onto the volcano and on a clear morning we saw it! The food, both breakfast and dinner served there were very tasty. The staff was very helpful. They had air conditioning which was a bonus. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone. For the price, you wont find anything better. Just know, when driving there, the dirt road to get there is very rocky, but it is worth the drive!

“Charming location with great individual cabins with A.C.”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

My son and I spent 3 days and 2 night here. It was a great place to spend the evening and have breakfast, but we planned so much we did not have time to enjoy the grounds or the pool. We stayed in one of the brand new cabins with an awesome bathroom and A.C. We also had a great view of volcan, but the top was covered every day we were there.

However, I can not wait to take my entire family back.

“Wonderful Spot”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

A beautiful spot with stunning views of Arenal volcano. You'll hear howler monkies and toucans. Individual cottages are spacious and with ample amenities. Pool area is small--this should not be your focal point. Restaurant and bar are open air with views of the volcano. Hotel located out of Fortuna up a steep road; but less then $5 for a taxi to town.

“Lovely views”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This hotel is great for beautiful volcano views! When we were there, there were clouds in the evening, but it didn't matter. The pool is clean, as are the cabins. Food (and especially breakfast!) is very good. The only drawback for us was that this is a very touristy place. It was clean, beautiful and good, but we've stayed at more authentic places that did more for us. It just depends what you're looking for!

“Peaceful--didn't want to leave!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

My husband and three daughters (6, 8 and 11) stayed here for three nights, and it was hard to leave! We were the last bungalow so were surrounded by forest, flowers etc. The landscaping here is absolutely gorgeous.

The bungalows were spacious and clean. The back porch had a table and chairs where we could sit, snack and have a glass of wine looking at the volcano--or even better have our coffee out there in the morning when the volcano was clear.

The pool are was gorgeous, and the included breakfast buffet was excellent. Roberto at the front desk was more than helpful and went out of his way to help us figure out how to get to our next stop.

The only drawbacks were the location: it is on the side of the volcano that does not have activity, so you can never see the lava coming down the side like on the other side; and it is at the end of a very long, uphill, very bumpy dirt road so it is an uncomfortable, $5 taxi ride any time you need/want to go into town, or on any type of tour. We thought the restaurant was expensive, probably because they have you trapped there! We tried to get dropped off in town after tours to eat there, before grabbing a taxi back to our slice of heaven!

“Beautiful Volcano View”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We arrived early, before check-in, and I was pleasantly surprised to be given a room right away. The view from our back patio was spectacular. I believe that all the cabins have a "volcano view." I thought that the cabins themselves were very nice. My husband commented that they were built "like fences" where you could see light seeping in between the cracks of the boards. The ceilings are high and vaulted. We had two big beds and a huge bathroom with an enormous shower. The back patio was the best feature of the room. We spent many hours sitting at our table, reading or playing cards, or just watching the volcano. Our cabin was at the top of a steep incline so we got our exercise walking up to it!

We had a small problem one night and the staff was quick to help us in the morning when we apprised them of our situation. The breakfast buffett was included (no additional cost) and presented quite a variety of foods. We had several lunches at the hotel. I recommend the typical plate with chicken for an authentic Costa Rican meal. There are howler monkeys on the property which we saw (and heard) everyday we were there.

“Absolutely Gorgeous!!!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We stayed at Lomas del Volcan for 4 nights in mid-March of 2008. It was the highlight of the trip. It is so very beautiful and peaceful there. The bungalows give you a lot of privacy - the pictures do not do them justice. They are nestled along winding roads and small hills - very quaint. So much lush green and beautiful color.

It is a LONG kilometer off of the main road where so many of the other hotels are. But that just makes it that much more peaceful. We did not rent a car and had no problems with taxis and tour pickups at the hotel. It is a $4 taxi ride into La Fortuna.

AC and hot water were great, as was the hotel restaurant.

“Best place I stayed at in Costa Rica”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This was the best hotel that I stayed at in all of Costa Rica. The individual cabins give you a great amount of privacy. The views of the volcano were great (of course I was lucky and there was no cloud cover). The manager - Richardo - was very helpful and made all our arrangements - including our canopy tour, our volcano visit, our trip to Tabacon springs, and our jeep-boat-jeep tour to Monteverde. It's a great place to relax. Note - the hotel is based on the "green" side of the volcano - so no fireworks at night.

“Great hotel!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We stayed here March 12-14, and had a fantastic stay. The cabins are clean, air-conditioned, and spacious. The bathrooms were fantastic, especially the giant showers. The food was very good, especially the breakfast buffet which went above and beyond (including cooked-to-order omelets!). The hotel was enjoyed by our family of 2 adults, 3 college-aged students, and a 10 year-old. There were a variety of guests, ranging from retirees to high school students. Although it doesn't face the active side of the volcano, the views of it are breathtaking, including a full view of the volcano from the dining room. The pool was picturesque. Our only disappointment was in the slightly dingy and tepid hot-tub, but other than that, our stay was perfect. We would definitely come again.

“Cabins on the Hillside”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

You definitely need a car to get in here. The cabins are set about a km off the main road into La Fortuna from Lake Arenal. Your cabins are set on a lush green hillside and of the higher cabins have an unobstructed view of the green side of the Arenal volcano. You can sit out on your porch and watch the horses graze in the meadow. I heard there are several walking trails from the property but we did not venture out there. The pool and hot tub were medium size and beautifully designed with a small waterfall running into the pool. Comfy lounge chairs surround.

The restaurant was reasonally priced, had excellent food and excellent service. The only downside is that several tour groups seem to go through here and the restaurant in the mornings (breakfast buffet included) and evenings might be packed. The tres leche (typical dessert) is to die for if you have a sweet tooth. The cabins were spacious with romantic decor, fridge, and a bathroom with the most amazing rain shower. The scary bit is that the cabins (worse I imagine if you are not on stilts) have a little space between the bottom of the door and the ground where little critters could come in (or not so little spiders in our case:S)

“Strongly recommended--our favorite place in Costa Rica!!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This place is fantastic. Everyone gets their own bungalow with a lovely wood patio and great views of the volcano. The bungalows are spacious and comfortable and afford a great deal of privacy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Reservations include a large buffet breakfast with fresh fruit and an omelet station.

Don't be alarmed by the hotel's distance from the main road or the rocky path to the reception area. It's not that far and the accommodations are well worth the trip.

“My Slice of Pardise!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

I was a bit concerned when a couple of negative reviews were posted after I had bought and paid for my 2-night stay at Lomas del Volcan. I had absolutely nothing to worry about.

If there is anything truly wrong with this wonderful little slice of paradise, I could not find it. Whatever imperfections may have existed where so completely overshadowed by its charm and my wonderment at my luck in finding it for $100/night.

The self-contained bungalows offer a set of double doors onto a deck with an unadulterated view of the dormant side of Arenal Volcano. The grounds are lush and beautifully groomed, everything was clean, my air conditioner worked, I had a fridge, a coffee maker, hot water... I was in heaven!

The breakfast was the best I had while in CR (including another hotel at double the price), Nelson at the front desk was helpful and efficient at booking two tours for me, one of which was on 2-hour notice!

I do not know how one would access the long, dirt road to the hotel in the wet season except by 4x4, but while bumpy, it was very accessible yet wonderfully isolated above a working farm.

Stay here before news spreads and the prices rise. It was the best investment I made while in CR.

“Loved it here!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We stayed in this location as part of a Caravan tour.

The little cabin we stayed in was great. very clean and charming with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in besides my own at home.

The food was good and pleantiful but what made this place so special was the location at the base of the Arenal Volcano.

The scenery was outstanding and grounds were beautiful. We loved sitting on our little porch watching the humming birds whisk around.

My only complaint was the pool was freezing, the hot tub was barely luke warm.

If you looking for a place to stay that is unique and charming, and quite with beautiful scenery, this place is for you.

There are no T.V.'s but I that was the LAST thing we wanted to do when we were in Costa Rica.

“Great quite mountain Hotel!!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We just returned from a weekend in Arenal, it was 5 of us originally and Lomas del Volcan was the only hotel that was willing to accomodate us( usually they only accept 4 per room but when we arrived there was one of those extra beds that u can roll under another bed..cant remember the name right now)

Easy to find once you get to Arenal, its like 1/2mile drive uphill to get to the hotel, once you are there. u can see the volcano perfectly ( inactive side) from anywhere in the hotel.

The employees are SUPER nice and helpfull, the hotel is very clean, the rooms are nice ( we asked for wood floors), super nice view, nice bathroom ( no problem witht the hot water as someone said here..there was plenty of hot water for 5 of us) Nice pool and jacuzzi ( they close it at 10pm maybe they should keep it open all night)

BEST part of it.. is Breakfast..AMAZING and i tell you you wont get better food anywhere else..and its included.. all types of food, gallopinto, sausage, pancakes, cereal, juice, fruits And a lady preparing the eggs as desired!! great coffee too

Im definetly going back and telling everybody about it!

Ill upload photos later!

“Nice But!!!!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Well to begin, the road to get there was horrible, about 5 minutes of bumpy, rocky and lonely road. Need a taxi just to get out to the main street. Room was nice, great view to volcano, good food, and nice pool. NO TV though... Shower was not working properly, however, got fixed once informed reception. Front desk only available until 10 pm... so if you need something after that, you are out of luck!

“Lack of Hot water, ohterwise OK”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

I learned about this place from Tripadvisor, and my husband and I booked it for one night as a part of out honeymoon trip in CR. The cabins were nice, clean, and the breakfast was included. The only thing that bothered me a lot is hot water. Apparently, each cabin has a small tank with hot water (5 liters), which is enough for a VERY quick shower for one person. Then you have to wait several hour for another 5 liters to warm up. Front desk staff did not tell us anything about it, and we ended up taking cold showers during our stay. It wouldn't be that bad, if it were hot outside. But it was pretty cool, so cold shower was not what we were looking forward to :)

Food was OK at best. For lunch I ordered beef steak, which was as tough as a piece of rubber. My husband ordered fish, and it was better. Breakfast was included, and was OK - nothing special. Waiters were there, but they did not serve, we had to help ourselves or starve :)

I would recommend it for budget travelers. However, if you are looking for a comfortable stay with hot showers - look somewhere else.

“Great Facilities/Location - Watch out for the Tour Groups”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We really loved this place. The grounds and the facilities were clean, beautiful and tastefully appointed. The staff and crew were very kind and helpful. The location in between Fortuna and the Volcano was also a plus.

My only observation that was a minus for us (but may not be for others) is that the quiet, tranquil bungalows is also a stop for a giant "Caravan" tour group (with their huge tour bus parked out front). I don't have anything personal against tour groups, but it did change the dynamics of the otherwise exclusive feel of the place - with a huge tour group and bus there, we felt that a cruise ship had just landed on the facilities. I understand that Arenal is probably one of the most visited areas of the country, so it is probably like this at nearly every hotel in the area. Just my 2 cents ...

“Cute little bungalows”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

The rooms were great aside from no TV or a/c. But wonderful view of backside of Arenal Volcano and beautiful landscape of rainforest. The town of La Fortuna has tons of stuff to do and must see volcano at night.

“Wonderful hotel!!!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This hotel was wonderful. The staff was very attentive. They helped a lot with booking tours in the area. Room was very clean and quite large. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area!!!

“Perfect”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Loved this place. Cute and quaint and exactly what I wanted. Amazing view of the volcano. Quick drive over to the other side to see the lava flow (if visibility permits).

Breakfast was good and the staff was friendly and helpful and of course spoke great English.

This place is great value for the money. The only negatives is we think they turn off the hot water late at night, and the rooms are very, very dark. They need better lighting in the rooms.

I'd stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

“Perfection Achieved”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas del Volcan was the second hotel on our two-week tour in Costa Rica. . When the van drove up the long driveway to the hotel, I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting much. As soon as we were closer, I could see the individual cabins, the pool, and the gorgeous view of Arenal Volcano.

As we were getting our keys and settling dinner plans for the night, I couldn't help but take in the spectacular view. It was absolutely amazing. During dinner, our group made sure to sit at the edge of the restaurant to get a view of the volcano.

Our second day at the hotel, we stayed by the pool and whirlpool and just admired the view. Although, it did rain for an hour and we had to retreat to our cabin. There is a small patio outside each cabin where the roof hangs over. The hotel provides coffee, so during the hour of rain we made coffee and just relaxed.

The service at the restaurant was slow at times; however, breakfast was buffet and it was plentiful. The coffee kept coming, too.

Housekeeping was great! I have to say, our maid was very kind to us. She folded our clothes, neatly put aside our books, change, shoes, etc. I was quite impressed as she really went overboard. We made sure to tip her well for her exceptional service.

At the end of three nights at the hotel, I really wanted to prolong the stay. It was a great location (only $3 one way to the town), amazing view, great staff, and offered the perfect relaxing environment.

I will definitely stay at this hotel again when I return to Costa Rica.

“loved hotel lomas del volcan”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We spent 2 nights here with 3 kids: 7, 10 and 12. We loved it! We had a great time. The little cottages are adorable. They have lovely back porches with fridges and coffee makers so you can sit and enjoy the incredible views of the volcano while you sip your coffee. We saw toucans flying in the trees right in front of the office. We say a SLOTH in a tree in the drive way !! We only ate breakfast here, but it was huge --large fruit plate plus pancakes, eggs and bacon or whatever you wanted, juice and coffee. We never needed lunch! The staff was very accomodating and courteous. It was a unique and very enjoyable place to stay. I would definitely stay there again and I would recommend it to everyone.

“Hotel Lomas del Volcan is wonderful”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

We stayed 3 nights here during the rainy season. It did rain! We were able to see the beautiful scenery during the few periods of sunshine. We loved this place. It is close to La Fortuna and yet it feels like it is miles away in a secluded area. Great views of the non-active side of the volcano, weather permitting. This place is located near the base of the volcano(Arenal). The rooms are clean and comfortable. No TV! There is a lovely pool and a warm Jacuzzi. The grounds are well landscaped. We were awakened by howler monkies early in the morning. Not something we were used to but we loved it! The breakfast buffet was great. That great Costa Rican coffee with choice of fresh made omelettes, eggs, rice and beans, plantains, and fresh fruit. Ate dinner one night at the restaurant and it was good and plentiful. Staff was very friendly and professional. I had read reviews that recommended a four wheel drive. It is not needed to drive to this location. The road to the hotel is a little rough and is not paved but any car would be fine. I have been on worse roads in West Virginia. On your way back to the hotel you pass by a large pond. If you look carefully you might see a small croc as we did. A great place.

“Individual guest houses on edge of volcano”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Our small cottage with a wooden peaked ceiling was fun place for a couple of days. The squeaky wooden floor mite be a problem if one person wants to get up early without awakening a companion.

Bathroom was clean and modern.

As noted this is not the currently active side of the Arenal Volcano. The hotel is at the end of an isolated roadway, not near town.

The site is relatively hilly and could be a problem for someone with difficulty walking on uneven paths. And you need a flashlight to navigate at night.

The open air buffet was good if a little unimaginative.

Howler monkeys, oropendolas and toucans all bring a morning wake up call. Curiously our veranda glass windows could not be opened.

I would be delighted to return again.

“A quiet, serene and beautiful setting.”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Loved this secluded, quiet, beautiful location. This was such a nice place to stay. We spent hours reading reviews and trying to decide where to stay. We are so glad we went with Lomas del Volcan and did not stay at our other two choices Hotel Silencio or Arenal Volcano Inn. They may be nice but they are right on the busy road whereas we stayed right below the volcano with nothing separating our view but trees and meadow. The separate bungalows were spacious and made of beautiful wood. The deck looked straight up at the volcano. Breakfast in the morning was a full breakfast …complete with omelet maker. At night the bartender made us great fresh pineapple pina coladas. The reviews stated the road to Lomas del Volcan was too difficult and we have to admit it was rocky but if you take it slow, it is not that bad. Besides, the location is worth it. The lava was not flowing on our side but the steam and beauty of the volcano was very picturesque. Make sure you stay at the higher up bungalows in the 400s or 500s and ask for the ones closest to the volcano. They have unobstructed views. Hotel staff recommended a horseback riding/canopy tour that was very good. We also hiked down to the La Fortuna waterfall. It was not that bad of a trail and well worth seeing.

“Nice and Romantic”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Nice bungalos on an incredibly beautiful farm. Go for one that is closer to the volcano and has an open deck. Quiet with great views and away from the road. The 1 mile unpaved road is not an easy drive and I would recommend a 4x4 especially when it rains. The food was nothing to write home about, but the staff was good and the view from the restaurant fantastic. Keep in mind that right now this side of the volcano is dormant, but that changes every couple of years or so.

“Great cabins, secluded, good view of dormant side of volcano”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas was awesome! The cabins were very clean and spacious with giant bathrooms and front and back porches. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly. Ask for a cabin higher on the hill so your back porch will have a direct view of the volcano. The cabins on the lower side of the hill are more on the jungle side and still have volcano views, but not as good. The pool & hot tub area are great. The entire grounds seemed very secluded and far away from civilization, but are actually very close. I must warn you that you won't see lava flows from this hotel. The hotel faces the lush green, dormant side of the volcano. I did read that the "active" side of the volcano does change, but I guess it takes years. Also, if you want to go to the Tabacon Hot Springs, this hotel is about a 20-30 minute drive. The town of La Fortuna is right nearby though with plenty of restaurants and shops. One more warning, the rooms don't have televisions, which was perfectly fine by me.

“Our Favorite in Costa Rica”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas Del Volcan was our favorite hotel in Costa Rica. The room was beautiful, spacious, and clean. We had a amazing view of the volcano. We enjoyed drinking coffee on our patio surrounded by the beautiful tropical plants. We did have a car, I can't imagine staying there without one, there's not much to do at the hotel and it's quite a ways from the road. But for a great place to stay in Arenal, I would highly recommend this hotel. Oh, and try the tres leches cake at the restaurant- Delicious!

“more remote”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This is one of the many hotels between La Fortuna and Tabacon. We stayed both here and Arenal Volcano Inn, and liked this place better, mostly because it's a couple kilometers up a dirt road, not right on the main road. The setting is pretty, and the view of the volcano must be great because it's closer to the volcano than most of the other places (the volcano was covered in clouds the entire time we were there, which I understand is not unusual, so I don't know what the view would actually be like). The rooms are individual little bungalows, like many of the hotel rooms in this area, and are pretty clean and comfortable. We were disappointed in the hot tub, which never got really warm despite our and other guests asking the management to turn it on several times, and there was also only enough hot water in our room for one of us to take a quick shower (we saw in the guest book that other guests had complained about this).

“Hotel Worth your Buck”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

what a pleasant an romantic spot, quiet, bungalows, scenic and reasonable priced. Staff very personable.

Only drawbacks- the showers were not always hot and hot pool - not barely warm.

I loved this place, however and thought it was the best value hotel we stayed in.

“Peaceful Retreat”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

This hotel is a welcome surprise. The hotel is actually multiple cabins spread over beautifully landscaped gardens. It is set back from the road, leaving you to relax in silence. We were fortunate to have the silence broken by a troupe of howler monkeys residing in the trees a few cabins down. We watched them play in the trees for quite awhile.

Our cabin was clean with two beds and a nice deck looking out onto the volcano. The cabin had both air conditioning and a ceiling fan.

The hotel staff were very helpful in selecting local activities and sites.

For a relaxing break I would definitely recommend a stop here.

“Nice and Great View of the Volcano”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

My wife and I stayed at the hotel last week (June 2006). We had great weather and were able to see the volcano both days (see my photo). Early in the morning is the best time. I got up early on the second day and walked around the grounds and saw a fox and toucan birds in the area.

The breakfast at the hotel was quite good and is included in the room rate. Our first morning it was a buffet, the second morning we ordered from a menu. We did not eat dinner at the hotel. One night we went to Baldi Hot Springs were we ate and enjoyed the hot springs, the second night we went into town.

Since it was the off-season, there were not many guests at the hotel. Steve at the front desk was very helpful for suggestions and tours. We booked the Cano Negro Tour which was fantastic since we were able to see monkeys, caymans, birds, turtles, bats, etc.

Each room is its own wood cabin. This is nice since the other rooms/cabins are away from each other. The rooms were large with two queen beds. The bathroom was huge. It was likely one of the largest showers that I have ever seen.

I know that some people have complained about the road to the hotel.. It is one (1) km from the main road on a dirt potholed road. The good point about it is that it is secluded and away from noise from the road. To me the road was a fun part of the experience. It was only about a 5 minute drive to town.

I would recommend the hotel as a mid to upper middle range. The cost was $70 per night plus tax with a 5% discount for paying cash.

“Nice, but...”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Just spent 2 nights in a large, clean cabina. I actually think we had two king beds in our room. Both beds were without mattress pads and the fitted sheets just wouldn't stay on the bed. The air conditioning was welcome. The hot water was not hot, and the manager seemed surprised. Some of our crowd had hot water. According to a another review, from 2005, hot water must be real spotty. Kind of odd since we were at the base of the volcano and just up the road, was the Baldi Hot Springs. Go figure? The buffet breakfasts were very good. The bartender does a nice job which is helpful since you are isolated from town. We never saw the volcano but did visit the hot springs. The town of La Fortuna was a $4 taxi ride, but since our time was already spoken for, we missed visiting it. I would suggest staying closer to La Fortuna as the volcano is only visible 30% of the time and the long, windy drive up to the property has a scary one lane bridge.

“A jewel”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Our favorite hotel all around out of 7 hotels on our adventure. Spotless clean. Two large beds, air conditioning, ceiling fans, outside fridge, 2 patios(one facing the volcano and one the rainforest)and a huge bathroom. The staff was great and very eager to please. The grounds were emmaculant and the views breathtaking. The have a pool and a "not so hot, hot tub" but that is unphasing compared to the rest of the resort. It's just off the beaten path. A mere 2 dollar cab ride into town if you are craving more hustle and bustle. Since their website published they have added more cabins and a full service bar and restaurant. Great included breakfast. Much more than bread and fruit. It's packed with variety. You can not go wrong with this hotel.

“Wonderful accomodations, superior staff!”

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas del Volcan was our favorite of the five different lodgings that we visited on a 12 day adventure. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Air conditioning and a gorgeous pool and fountain had been recently added so were a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms were HUGE and very clean. (Hot water a bit limited like many other places in Costa Rica so be quick in the shower.) They booked a fabulous horseback ride/hike to La Fortuna Waterfall for us. The grounds were beautifully maintained with an imposing view of the forested side of the volcano. We visited Tabacon Resort for dinner and swimming but much preferred Lomas del Volcan and it had the added benefit of NOT being in the eruption danger zone. I would love to visit Lomas del Volcan again.

“Super cadre,super site”
