Rental Requirements
• Credit card under the name of the renter, issued by a major credit card company
• A minimum of $750 rental deposit, according to selected insurance; this amount is refunded upon safe return of vehicle
• Valid Passport or ID, and driver license
• 18 years of age or older (deductibles on CDW are doubled if renter is between ages 18 - 21 of years)
• Vehicles should be returned with the same amount of fuel, to avoid a refueling fee of $1.25 per liter (subject to change.)
• Minimum rental period is 3 days
Any adjustments or modifications to the reservation may change the final rate.
Your credit card will not be charged until you pick up the vehicle.
Cancellations & Changes
Cancellations or changes to reservation must be received at least 72 hrs prior to your scheduled rental start date or end date otherwise a 1 day rental will be billed to your card. In case of a "no-show" or you decide not to take the car at the time of rental, we charge the equivalent of a 1 day rental to your credit card, plus delivery fees (if applicable).
All car rental rates are based on 24-hr increments. We offer a 4 hour "grace" period. If vehicle is returned 4 hrs after scheduled return time, a full daily rate will be charged.
Website rates constitute official rates and are subject to change.
Your Safety is very important to us. Please read the three options of insurance protection which are offered during your reservation process.
A. Third Party Waiver / Supplemental Liability Waiver (TP/SLI)
TP/SLI protects from liabilities resulting from injuries to bystanders and damages to third party property.
This policy covers:
(1) personal injuries of individuals outside the rented vehicle of up to ?150 Million or about $300,000 USD (at 500 Colones per $1.00 USD, as of 27-May-2011), and
(2) are limiting the total liability to third party property damage a Zero ($0) Deductible.
The Supplemental Liability Waiver (TP/SLI) is optional at Vamos Rent-A-Car, provided that at the time of rental, the customer can present proof of current SLI coverage in Costa Rica.
SLI coverage is mandatory in Costa Rica and if coverage cannot be validated, the acceptance of liability coverage will be a condition of rental and costs $9.95 per day.
At the time of booking request the Mandatory Third Party Waiver option to select the Third Party Waiver. The Mandatory Third Party Waiver is always included in the Basic- and Full Coverage options (see below).
B. Basic Coverage (CDW) with a Deductible of $ 975
The renter or authorized driver is responsible for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, regardless of who is at fault. Vamos provides the renter and authorized drivers with a way to minimize or eliminate the financial responsibility for loss of, or damage to, the rental vehicle through the purchase of Collision Damage Waiver (CDW).
CDW is not insurance! It is a waiver of Vamos Rent-A-Car´s right to collect from the renter or authorized driver for the loss or damage of the rental vehicle.
The waiver limits the vehicle damage liability to a deductible of $975 USD and limits your liability in case of vehicle theft to a deductible of $975 USD. The cost for this waiver is between $14.95 and $16.95 per day depending on make and model of rented vehicle.
This waiver is optional, however if proof of alternate insurance is not provided, the renter is fully liable for 100 percent of damages and/ or theft of vehicle.
Basic Coverage includes the Third Party Waiver.
At the time of booking request the Basic Coverage (CDW) option to select CDW with a Deductible of $975 USD.
C. Full Coverage (CDW) with a Deductible of $0
Frees you from all liabilities for paying damages in case of an accident, theft, or total loss, except in case of negligence (see below). SLDW increases your protection by lowering your CDW waiver to deductible to $0; the daily rate for this insurance is between $24.95 and $29.95 per day depending on make and model of rented vehicle.
Full Coverage includes the Third Party Waiver.
At the time of booking request the Full Coverage option to select a CDW with a Deductible of $0 USD.
Credit Card Insurance Programs
We accept most credit card rent-a-car insurance policies. Many credit card rental policies insure the rented vehicle against Damage and Theft (CDW) of the rented vehicle, but may not protect against Third Party liability (SLI).
Please inquire with your credit card provider about the details of the rent-a-car insurance protection plan. If you decide to use your credit card as the provider of LDW coverage the deposit for the rented vehicle is $2000 USD.
Using an insurance program provided by some types of gold or platinum credit cards is a good advantage since these credit cards often cover small scratches, dents as well as the entire rented vehicle in case of collision or theft.

Coverage and Deductible Regulations
Coverage is void if
(a) the driver is not authorized by our company to operate the vehicle
(b) the driver is under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal substances
(c) the vehicle is operated in a manner that is against the laws of Costa Rica
(d) the driver cannot provide an accident report from the local authorities.
Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection deductibles are doubled for drivers between ages 18 to 21.

How can I pick up my rented car?You can arrange to be picked up at the San Jose or Liberia airport. We offer this service for free. One of our representative will meet and greet you at the outside of the arrival terminal, holding a sign that displays your name. Please make sure to provide us with your flight information upon reservation, or take a taxi to our main office location -- about 2 minutes away from the airport.
Can Vamos Rent-A-Car deliver the car?
Yes, we can deliver the car to your hotel. We will prepare all the paperwork in advance. This way you can take possession of your car at the hotel without having to wait! No lines, no hassles.
We can also deliver the car to all regions of the country for reasonable fees, please see Vehicle Delivery Fee Table at the bottom of this page for rates.
Do you have an airport location?
No. An office at the airport would require us to raise our rates. You can arrange to have one of our representatives meet you at the airport. Just provide us with your arrival info upon reservation and we will wait for you at the exit of the arrival terminal with a sign that displays your name.
Do you have an office in Liberia?
Yes, we do have an office in Liberia. You can arrange to have one of our representatives meet you at the airport. Just provide us with your arrival info upon reservation and we will wait for you at the exit of the arrival terminal with a sign that displays your name.
Can I return the car at a different location than where I received it?
Yes, you can receive the rental vehicle at one location and return it at a different location, separate fees apply. For instance, if you wanted to receive the car at our San Jose office and at the end of the rental return the car in Liberia (or the other way around), the fee is $35 USD.
How much is the deposit?
The deposit is between $750 and $2000, depending on the vehicle model and insurance provisions. At the start of the rental we authorize your card for the deposit and the rental amount. At the end of the rental, we release the deposit back to your credit card.
Can I use my Debit Card?
Yes, but some Debit Cards may vary for deposit hold releases. Please contact your Bank for more information.
How old do I have to be?
The minimum rental age is 18 years. However, if you are between 18 and 21 years, the deductibles on CDW and theft insurance are doubled.
Can the car leave the country?
In general, rental cars cannot be taken out of Costa Rica. We can; however, offer you the following alternative:
- You tell us the dates that you need a car in Costa Rica.
- You tell us the dates that you need a car in Panama or Nicaragua.
- We arrange the rental in Costa Rica and reserve your car with another company at the border to meet you.
- All you have to do is meet us at the border to return your car, cross the border (by cab) and have a representative from our strategic Rent-A-Car partner meet you at the other side of the border with your rental car.
What happens if the rental vehicle experiences mechanical difficulties?
If your rental vehicle experiences mechanical issues, just contact us with the supplied cell phone (from anywhere there is cell phone coverage) 24 hours a day!
We will either send you a replacement vehicle, or have a mechanic resolve the issue on the spot. Our main goal is to get you back on the road as fast as possible.

Our History
Originally there was no intention of starting a car rental business, only to a rent a 4X4 vehicle for a longer period of time...at a fair price! We did our research, visiting offices of major car rental franchises, comparing rates from the internet, calling individuals that were renting their cars through the classified headings. Yet, we failed to find one that met our expectations of fair pricing, quality vehicles, and actual customer service. We realized that there must be other visitors in need of a rental car, having similar expectations. In hindsight, this was the seed that started the present concept. As of the beginning of 2011, we operate a fleet of over 105+ rental vehicles (we are adding more), and an ever-growing number of repeat clientele that we know by name. Not bad, considering that we started with only one car in December 2004.

If you wish to use the supplied cell phone for personal calls within Costa Rica, we will charge you $ 5 per day or $ 25 per week for unlimited phone use. We guarantee that your vehicle is equipped for your needs, like a child seat, a cooler and / or a roof rack. All these extras are free, so your trip is safe and comfortable. To ensure availability, please ask for these complimentary items when making your reservation.
How we offer such competitive rates?
Compare our prices with other established car rental companies, our rates are up to 60% less. Cars are almost twice as costly to purchase & maintain as in most industrialized countries, since they are subject to 50 - 80 percent import tariffs. We can offer such savings because we purchase late model, pre-owned, high quality vehicles, which are maintained continuously by our staff of highly trained & qualified mechanics. Every vehicle receives a thorough inspection and preventive maintenance before each rental. We pass our acquisition savings on to our customers.
